Chapter 105

BRANDON’S POV

It took hours before we finally reached Julian’s city.

The entire flight there, my mind refused to stay calm. Every possibility kept replaying in my head over and over again.

Julian. Aria. The pregnancy. The jealousy. The accusations against Professor Hensley. Everything felt connected somehow.

By the time we landed, I was already irritated from thinking too much. Dominic glanced at me carefully as we got into the car.

“You really think he did it?” he asked cautiously.

“I don’t know,” I answered honestly. “But I’m tired of guessing.”

The drive to Julian’s apartment was quiet after that. When we finally arrived, I got out immediately and headed upstairs without waiting for Dominic. I knocked on the door once. No answer.

Then again. A few seconds later, the door opened slightly. Leonie stood there. The moment she saw me, surprise crossed her face. “Brandon?”

“I’m here to see Julian.”

Her expression changed immediately after hearing his name. She sighed tiredly and leaned against the door slightly. “He’s drunk.”

“I didn’t ask.”

“He’s really drunk,” she repeated carefully. “He won’t see anyone tonight.”

I frowned slightly. “Move.”

“Brandon-”

“I said move.”

For a second, it looked like she wanted to argue. Then she stepped aside reluctantly. I walked into the apartment slowly.

The smell of alcohol hit me immediately.

Bottles were scattered everywhere. Some on the table. Some on the floor. The apartment itself looked like nobody had cleaned it in days.

Then I saw him.

Julian was sitting on the floor in the middle of the living room with his back resting against the couch. His head was lowered slightly while a half-empty bottle hung loosely from his hand.

He looked terrible. Not angry. Not dangerous. Just broken. Leonie walked in behind me quietly. “He’s been like this for days,” she said softly. “He barely eats. He barely sleeps.”

Julian did not even notice I was there. Or maybe he did and simply did not care enough to react. I stared at him silently for a long moment.

This was not what I expected. I came here ready for confrontation. Ready to look him in the eye and demand

answers.

But the man sitting there looked like somebody slowly destroying himself from the inside. My jaw tightened slightly.

Could a man in this condition really plan something that calculated? Could he arrange an attack, erase evidence and silence people afterward?

I suddenly was not sure anymore. Leonie crossed her arms and looked at me carefully. “What exactly is going

on?”

I ignored the question. Instead, I looked at Julian one last time before turning around immediately.

Leonie frowned behind me. “That’s it?”

“Yes.”

“You came all the way here just to stare at him?”

“I got my answer.” She looked confused by that, but I did not explain myself. Because honestly, I did not even know what my answer was anymore.

All I knew was that the man I just saw looked closer to drinking himself to death than planning murder.

Without another word, I walked out of the apartment. Dominic looked up immediately when I returned to the car. “Well?”

“It’s not him.”

“You sure?”

“No,” I admitted quietly. “But I don’t think he’s capable of this right now.”

Dominic nodded slowly before starting the engine again. “Where to now?” I looked out the window for a moment before answering.

“My stepfather’s house.”

Dominic glanced at me briefly. “That bad?”

“You have no idea.” The drive there felt even heavier. I hated going back to that house. Nothing good ever

came from it.

By the time we arrived, my mood was already dark enough to snap at anyone who spoke to me wrong.

The guards opened the gate immediately after recognizing my car. As soon as I stepped inside the house, Blake appeared from the hallway.

“Well,” he said dryly. “Look who finally remembered this place exists.”

I walked past him without answering. “That’s rude even for you,” he muttered.

“I’m not here for you.”

“That much is obvious.” The old man was already seated in the living room with a glass of whiskey in his hand when I entered.

My stepfather barely looked surprised to see me. “Brandon,” he said calmly. “I heard you were dead.”

“I’m sorry to disappoint you.”

A faint smile crossed his face. “Still disrespectful.”

“And you’re still annoying.”

Blake scoffed quietly from behind me. “You walk in here after years and start acting like this?”

I turned toward him coldly. “Do yourself a favor and stay out of this.”

His expression hardened immediately. “You don’t talk to me like that in my house.”

“This isn’t your house.” Silence fell briefly.

The old man finally sighed and set his glass down. “Enough.”

I looked back at him immediately. “I need information.”

That got his attention. “Oh?” he leaned back slightly. “So you finally need something from me.”

“I wouldn’t be here otherwise.”

Blake laughed quietly. “At least he’s honest.” I ignored him.

The old man studied me carefully for a few seconds before speaking again. “This is about the girl.”

“Aria.”

“Yes,” he replied calmly. “The girl who ended up in the hospital.”

My jaw tightened slightly. “I need help finding who attacked her.”

He stayed silent for a moment. Then he smiled slowly. “I can help you.” I already hated where this was going.

“What do you want?”

“Straight to business,” he said approvingly. “Good.”

“I’m not in the mood for games.”

His expression remained calm. “Take over her father’s company.”

I stared at him coldly. “What?”

“You heard me.”

Blake frowned immediately. “Father-”

“Quiet. You can’t do it, so Brandon will,” the old man cut him off before looking back at me. “You have the resources, connections and influence to control that company easily.”

“I’m not stealing from her.”

His expression barely changed. “You call it stealing. I call it survival.” “She’s fighting for that company.”

“And she’s lying unconscious in a hospital bed,” he replied bluntly. “Which means she’s weak.”

That irritated me instantly. “She’s not weak.”

“Then why are you here asking me for help?” Silence filled the room. The old man leaned back comfortably. “You want to protect her?” he continued calmly. “Then take the company before somebody else does.”
