Chapter 120
ARIA’S POV
The phone felt heavy against my ear. Brandon’s words echoed in my mind, making my blood run cold.

A mole. Someone close to us. Someone who knew my movements, knew exactly when I left Brandon’s secure estate, and knew where to find me.
The very thought made the walls of my small apartment feel like they were closing in on me.
“Aria? Are you still there?” Brandon’s voice cut through my panic. He sounded deeply worried, his usual calm confidence completely gone.
“I’m here.” I whispered, pulling Amelia a little tighter against my chest. She let out a tiny, soft sigh in her sleep, completely oblivious to the danger surrounding us. “I just… I don’t understand who would do this.”
“I am going to find out, I swear it to you,” Brandon said, his voice dropping into a low, deadly tone.
“But until I do, you are not safe alone. Look, Aria, I know what you said to me outside the lawyer’s office. I know you said we are done, and that nothing romantic can happen between us anymore. I will respect your decision. I won’t force myself into your life.”
He paused, taking a deep, heavy breath.
“But I cannot leave you unprotected. For your safety, and for Amelia’s safety, I am sending more men to your building. Leo needs backup. They will guard the front entrance and your hallway twenty–four hours a day. Please, don’t fight me on this.”
A few hours ago, my stubborn pride would have made me scream at him. I would have told him I didn’t need his charity or his protection. But right now?
After hearing that a hitman had been sent by the man running my father’s company? After realizing someone was tracking my every move? I couldn’t even argue. In fact, a massive wave of relief
washed over me.
“Okay,” I said quietly, my voice cracking slightly. “Okay, Brandon. Send them.”
“Thank you,” he breathed, sounding immensely relieved. “Stay inside. Aria Don’t open the door for anyone.”
For the next few days, I did exactly that. I went into a total lockdown. I was literally too scared to stepfa single foot outside my apartment. Every little sound in the hallway made me jump.
Every creak of the floorboards made my heart race. I stayed away from the windows, kept the curtains tightly drawn, and spent all my time sitting on the couch, watching Amelia.
The only thing that gave me comfort was knowing that Brandon’s men were right outside. Every time I peeked through the peephole, I saw Leo or another large, serious–looking man standing guard.
Brandon was trying so hard to fish out the mole, but until he did, my apartment was my prison. By the fourth day, the isolation was starting to get to me. My mind was spinning with dark thoughts.
And then, amidst the terrifying silence, my phone rang.
I jumped, grabbing it quickly from the coffee table. When I looked at the screen, my breath caught.
was a call from Elena

stared at her name, a flood of mixed feelings fitting me all at once. She was the same friend who had strongly advised me to move in with Julian back then, telling me it was the best choice for my future.
She was also the exact same friend who had turned me away and refused to give me a place to stay right after I had left Julian’s apartment, claiming she couldn’t take me in because her boyfriend was around.
Why was she calling me now? Out of nowhere?
A sudden knot formed in my stomach. A dark, ugly suspicion crept into my mind. How did she even know I was using this phone number again?
Why was she calling at such a critical, dangerous moment in my life? Could she be connected to everything that was happening? My hand shook as I slid the screen to answer.
“Hello? Elena?”
“Aria! Oh my god, you actually answered!” Elena’s voice came bursting through the speaker, sounding loud, bubbly, and completely normal.
“I’ve been trying to track down your contact for days. How are you doing? How is the baby?”
“We’re… we’re managing.” I said cautiously, keeping my tone guarded. “Why are you calling, Elena? It’s been a while.”
“I know, I know, and I feel absolutely terrible about what happened before,” she said quickly, her voice dropping into a guilty whine. “I was such a bad friend for not letting you stay with me. I swear my boyfriend was being a total jerk about it, but we broke up, and I feel so guilty. But actually, Aria, that’s kind of why I’m calling. I just got a new job in the city, and I desperately need a place to stay. Just for a little bit while I get on my feet. Can I please come over?”
I froze. At first, every single instinct in my body shouted no. I didn’t want her here. I didn’t want anyone from my past in my life right now. My life was too complicated, too dangerous, and I didn’t trust her advice from back then.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea, Chloe,” I said, looking over at Amelia. “My place is really small, and things are very crazy for me right now.”
“Please, Aria!” Chloe begged, her voice sounding desperate. “Just for a few weeks. I have nowhere else to go, and I promise I’ll help you with the baby. I’ll pay for groceries, I’ll clean, anything! We used to be best friends. Please don’t leave me stranded.”
I listened to her plead, and slowly, my defenses started to crumble. I was so lonely. I had been locked in this apartment for days, drowning in fear and anxiety. Maybe I was just being paranoid.
Chloe had always been a bit selfish, but a mole? A traitor? That seemed too crazy, even for her. Besides, Brandon’s guards were outside. No one could hurt me with them there.
“Fine,” I sighed, rubbing my temples. “You can stay. But only for a little while.”
An hour later, she arrived with two large suitcases. The moment she walked through the door, the tense atmosphere in the apartment changed.
She was so happy to see Amelia, rushing over to the crib and gushing over how beautiful she was.
“Oh my god, Aria, she looks just like you!” She squealed softly, gently touching Amelia’s tiny hand.
We sat down on the couch, and for the first time in weeks, I actually felt alive. We had a really good discussion, laughing about old times and catching up on everything I had missed while I was in the coma.
It felt so good to just be a normal girl talking to her friend, instead of a target running for her life. For a few hours, the fear completely vanished.
