I stared through the peephole, my jaw dropping in absolute disbelief. He was literally struggling with Brandon’s bodyguards, trying to force his way down the hall toward my door.
A hot surge of pure fury rushed through my veins. How did he find me? What was he even doing here? The last time I checked, he was a married man.
He had chosen his life, so why was he turning up at my apartment building like a ghost from my past? I backed away from the door, my chest heaving.
My first instinct was to completely walk out on him. I wanted to tell Leo to throw him down the stairs and make sure he never came back.
But through the thick wood of the door, I could hear Luca shouting, making a massive scene and giving the guards a really hard time.
He wasn’t going to leave quietly, and the last thing I needed was the police showing up or the neighbors complaining. With a frustrated sigh, I unlocked the deadbolt and pulled the door open.
“Let him in, Leo,” I called out, my voice clipping the air.
Leo looked at me, completely unsure, but he slowly lowered his arm. Luca gasped for air, fixing his wrinkled jacket, and rushed past the guards into my living room.
Before he could even take a step toward the hallway, I stood directly in his path. I made sure the door to the bedroom was tightly closed. There was no way I was letting him see Amelia.
He didn’t deserve to breathe the same air as my daughter.
“You have exactly two minutes,” I said, crossing my arms over my chest. My face was as hard as stone. “Say whatever you came to say, and then get out of my house.”
Luca looked at me, his eyes wide and completely desperate. As always, the moment he opened his mouth, he started apologizing.
“Aría, please, just listen to me,” he begged, reaching his hands out toward me, though I stepped back to avoid his touch. “I have been looking everywhere for you. I made a huge mistake. I love you, Arta I have always loved you, and I never should have let you go. My life is a complete mess without you‘
I let out a cold, bitter laugh. I was so done hearing this. I was so incredibly tired of his endless excuses and his sudden, late–night realizations.
“Save it, Luca,” I snapped, cutting him off without an ounce of pity. “I am completely done hearing your voice I have moved on with my life, and absolutely nothing you say will ever bring us back together. You made your bed, now go sleep in it. You are a married man, remember? Go back home to Serena.”

The moment her name left my mouth, Luca broke down. His shoulders slumped, and he covered his face with his hands.
“There is no home to go back to, Aria,” he choked out, his voice cracking completely. “My marriage with Serena is over. It’s done.”
I blinked, completely caught off guard. “What?”
“She is a terrible, scheming bitch,” Luca spat, his eyes filling with a sudden, dark anger. “She ruined my life.”
I stood there, totally confused. I wasn’t asking because I cared about him–not at all. I was asking purely out of raw curiosity. “What exactly went wrong, Luca?”
Luca let out a shaky breath, looking at the floor in deep shame. “The baby she was carrying… it was never mine. It was all a giant lie.”
My heart skipped a beat, but I didn’t say a word. I just listened.
“She only pinned the pregnancy on me because she was totally desperate to become my wife,”
Luca explained, his voice trembling. “She knew my mother was desperate for a grandchild, so she used my gullible mother against me to force the marriage. Serena just put to bed a few days ago, Aria. I demanded a DNA test immediately. The results confirmed it. The child isn’t mine.”
He looked up at me, his eyes begging for a single scrap of sympathy. He clearly expected me to feel sorry for him. He thought I would hear his tragic story, comfort him, and open my arms to take him back.
But instead of pity, I felt absolutely nothing. My heart was completely numb. He had ignored me when I loved him, and now that his own lies had blown up in his face, he wanted me to fix his broken heart.
“That is a very sad story, Luca,” I said, my tone completely flat and dry. “But it has absolutely nothing to do with me. We are done. We have been done for a very long time. I want you to leave this apartment right now, and I never want you to show up in my life again.”
Luca looked at me in total shock. His mouth parted, completely stunned by how cold I was being. “Aria… how can you say that? After everything we’ve been through?”
Suddenly, a massive realization hit me. The fog in my brain cleared, and a very pressing question pushed its way to the front of my mind.
“Wait a minute,” I said, my eyes narrowing as I stepped closer to him. “How did you even find me. I uca? I changed my number. I am living in a completely different building. No one knows I am here.”
