Even though Brandon was driving fast, the road seemed to stretch on for miles. The inside of the car was completely silent, but my mind was screaming.
I felt a hot, burning anger in my chest, but deep down, a smaller part of me felt strange. We were going to see Julian.
I didn’t know how I would face him after all this time. The last time I saw him, he had crushed my heart into pieces. Now, he had stolen my daughter.
I was sure that if I got close enough to him, I would hit him so hard he might black out. I didn’t care about being polite anymore. I wanted him to feel the pain I was feeling.
Beside me, Brandon didn’t say a word. His hands were gripped tight on the steering wheel, and his knuckles were white. His eyes were trained on the road ahead, sharp and focused.
I knew he was beyond pissed. He loved Amelia like she was his own flesh and blood. To him, Julian wasn’t just an ex; he was a threat to the family we had built.
Brandon must have felt me looking at him because he glanced over for a second. “Are you okay, Aria?” he asked. His voice was low and rough.
I shook my head. “No. I’m so angry I can barely breathe. Julian has no right to touch her. He has no claim to her. And yet, here we are, driving to see that stupid man because he thinks he can just take what he wants.”
Brandon reached over and took my hand in his. His palm was warm and his grip was strong. It was the only thing keeping me from falling apart.
“Amelia will be alright,” he said firmly. “And so will you. I promise.”
I looked out the window, not saying anything back. Brandon was trying to be sweet, but I knew better Would I really be alright?
Seeing Julian for the first time after all these years was going to stir up memories I had buried deep in the ground. I didn’t tell Brandon this, though.
I didn’t want him to worry about my heart when we needed to worry about Amelia When we finally pulled up to the Royal Grand Hotel, my phone buzzed. It was Julian. I answered it immediately, my hand shaking.
“I can see you from here, Aria,” Julian’s voice came through. I looked up at the high windows of the suites.
“I see Brandon is with you. Let me make this very clear. I will not let you in it he is coming with you. If I see him at my door, I’m leaving with my daughter through the back. Come inside alone and get Amelia, or else you should just leave right now.”
“You bastard!” I cursed at him, my voice loud enough for Brandon to hear. “Don’t you dare touch her!”

He hung up. I turned to Brandon, feeling desperate. “He won’t let us in if you’re there. He told me to come up alone or he’ll leave with her. I have to go in by myself, Brandon.”
Brandon’s jaw tightened. “No way. I’m not letting you go in there with that snake alone.”
“I have to!” I cried, grabbing his arm. “Julian doesn’t mess around when he speaks. The last thing I need is him shipping my daughter off to some other place where I can’t find her. Please, Brandon. Stand back. Stay in the lobby where you can see the elevators.”
Brandon looked like he wanted to argue, but he saw the fear in my eyes. He nodded slowly. “Be careful, Aria. If anything goes wrong, if he even raises his voice at you, you call me immediately. I’ll be right there.”
I nodded and stepped out of the car. Julian texted me the room number once he saw that I was walking toward the entrance alone. I moved through the busy lobby, not seeing any of the fancy decorations or the rich people walking by.
My mind was on one thing: Room 402.
When I reached the door, my hands were shaking so much I could barely ball them into a fist to knock. The door opened, and there he was.
Julian.
He looked older, more tired, but he still had that same handsome face that used to make me melt. Now, it just made me want to scream. The moment the door closed behind me, I lost it.
I grabbed his shirt collar and tugged at it like a deranged person. I started hitting his chest, my breath coming in short gasps. “Where is she? Where is my daughter!” I screamed.
Julian didn’t move. He didn’t fight back. He just stood there like a statue and let me hit him. I slapped him across the face once, then twice. The sound of the slaps echoed in the quiet room.

“Are you crazy?” I yelled, my voice breaking. “You dirty bastard! How could you do this?”
I looked around the room, but I didn’t see Amelia. My panic went through the roof. “Where is she? What did you do with her?”
“If you don’t calm down, I won’t let you see her, Aria,” he said. His voice was calm, which made me even more angry.
“You big asshole!” I screamed. I started grabbing things off the tables, vases, books, whatever I could reach. and throwing them.
I made a total mess of the hotel room, breaking things and screaming until my throat hurt Juhan just stood there and watched me. He waited until I was completely tired out
Finally, I slumped against a wall, gasping for air. I had no more energy left to fight. “Why are you doing this?” I asked, my voice weak. “Why are you frustrating me like this?”
“I only came for my daughter,” he said simply.
