ARIA’S POV

Julian stood there in the middle of the hotel suite, looking at me like he had just seen a ghost. His face went pale, turning a sickly shade of white, and the smug, arrogant look he had earlier was completely gone.

I felt a cold, sharp rush of victory seeing him like this. For years, he was the one who held all the power. He was the one who walked away without a word and left me with a broken heart and a belly that was starting to

grow.

But now, the tables have finally turned. What did you just say to me?Julian asked. His voice was barely a whisper, thin and weak. He stepped closer to me, his eyes searching mine desperately for any sign that I was lying or playing a trick.

Aria, don’t play games with me. Not about this. I’ve seen the photos of that girl on the news. She looks exactly like me when I was a child. She has my green eyes. She has my face. You can’t stand there and tell me she belongs to that billionaire widower.

I let out a harsh, cold laugh that echoed off the expensive walls of the hotel. It felt incredibly good to laugh at him.

Looks can be deceiving, Julian. Maybe she just has a common face that you want to see yourself in. But the truth is simple, even if it’s hard for you to hear. The baby I was carrying when you left methat baby didn’t make it. I lost that child because of the stress, the hunger, and the deep pain you put me through when you threw us away like trash.”

I took a heavy step toward him, poking my finger hard into his chest. I wanted him to feel every word like a physical blow.

Brandon was the one who was there when I had nothing. He was the one who picked up the broken pieces of my life. He is the father of my child in every way that matters. He is the one who raised her, loved her, and kept her safe while you were out living your selfish life. So don’t you dare come here and talk to me about sperm or blood. You are nothing to her. You are just a stranger who scared her mother.

Julian shook his head, his hands clenching into tight fists at his sides. I don’t believe you. You’re just saying this to hurt me. You’re lying because you hate me and you want to keep me away from my own flesh and blood.

I do hate you,I snapped back, my voice sharp as a knife. But that doesn’t change the facts of the matter. Amelia is and will always be Brandon’s child. Now, I am done talking to you. I am tired of looking at your lying face. Where is my daughter? If you don’t bring her out right now, I am calling Brandon up here. He is waiting downstairs, and he won’t be as nice or as patient as I’ve been.

Julian looked like he wanted to argue more, but he saw the cold hire in my eyes. He knew I wasn’t backing down. He turned around slowly and walked toward the bedroom door at the back of the suite.

He opened it, and my heart skipped a beat. Amelia?Julian called out softly.

Mommy!

The moment she heard my voice, Amelia came running out of the room. She was holding a new doll and a halfeaten chocolate bar, but her eyes lit up like stars when she saw me.

I dropped to my knees and caught her in my arms, holding her so tight I thought I might never let go. I buried my face in her small neck, breathing in her sweet, familiar scent.

She was safe. She was right here. I stood up, holding Amelia’s hand firmly. I didn’t want to stay in this room for another second. I turned to Julian, who was still standing there, looking completely lost.

He looked like a man whose whole world had just been turned upside down. Don’t ever come near us again, Julian,I said, my voice low and dangerous. If I see you near her school or my shop again, I won’t just slap you. I will destroy you. Stay away from my family.

I didn’t wait for him to answer. I grabbed Amelia’s bag and led her out of the room. When the elevator doors opened in the lobby, Brandon was standing right there, pacing like a caged lion.

The moment he saw Amelia, the tension in his shoulders dropped and he let out a long breath. He stepped forward and picked her up, hugging her tightly against his chest.

I’ve got you, princess,Brandon whispered into her hair. You’re okay. You’re safe now. Nobody is going to take you again.

Let’s go,” I said, my voice shaking with a mix of relief and lingering rage. I just want to get away from this place. I want to go home.

We walked out to the car in a heavy silence. Brandon placed Amelia in her car seat and buckled her in carefully, making sure the straps were secure.

He got into the driver’s seat, and I sat in the front beside him. But the moment the doors closed and the engine started, the silence became too much.

The fear I had been holding in turned into a need to make her understand. I turned around in my seat to face Amelia. “Amelia, look at me. Look at Mommy right now,I said. My voice was stern and very sharp.

Amelia, who was trying to show me the doll’s dress, stopped and looked up. She saw the tears in my eyes and the hardness in my face, and her small smile disappeared instantly.

Why did you follow that man, Amelia?I asked. How many times have I told you, how many hundreds of times, never to leave the school with a stranger? How many times have I told you that you only leave with me. or Uncle Brandon, or the school bus driver we know?

Amelia’s lip started to tremble, and her eyes filled with water. But Mommyhe said he was your friend. He knew my name and he knew your name too. He was nice and he bought me chocolate and this doll. He said we were going on a surprise trip to see you at the hotel.

Being nice does not mean he is a friend!I scolded her, my voice rising as the terror of the afternoon poured

out of me.

Anyone can buy you chocolate, Amelia. Anyone can go to a store and buy a doll. That does not mean they are good people! I have told you a thousand times: do not talk to strangers and do not ever go anywhere with them, no matter what they promise you!

I’m sorry, Mommy,Amelia sobbed, the big tears rolling down her cheeks and hitting her dress. I thought it was okay because he was a grownup.

It is not okay!I cried, my own tears starting to fall again. I was terrified, Amelia. My heart was breaking. I thought I had lost you forever. I thought I would never see your beautiful face again. Do you understand how much pain that caused me? You cannot just follow people because they give you candy or act niceto you. You could have been put on a plane and taken to a place where I would never find you!

Brandon reached over and squeezed my hand hard, trying to give me strength, but he didn’t tell me to stop. He knew she had to learn this lesson deep in her soul so it never happened again.
