Chapter 144
JULIAN’S POV
I slammed my thumb against the red button on my screen, cutting off my parents before they could scream another word at
I shoved the vibrating phone deep down into my front pocket, my chest heaving up and down as my anger boiled over I marched out of the corporate building, got straight into my
orts car, and slammed the door shut.
All through the drive back toward my hotel, my pocket did not stop buzzing. My parents were calling me back–to–back, totally losing their minds over the massive bomb I had just dropped about their secret grandchild.
But I didn’t care.
I completely ignored them and let the phone ring out. At this point, I was already too pissed off to handle their sudden shock or their demands.
As I watched the roads pass by, a sudden, reckless thought popped into my head. I thought about driving straight to Amelia’s school.
I knew that doing something like that would get Aria absolutely, completely pissed off at me. It was crossing a dangerous line, but as I gripped the steering wheel, I realized I had no other choice.
I couldn’t sit in a hollow hotel room anymore. I needed to see my daughter. I had barely even pulled into the hotel parking lot before I spun the car around, hit the gas, and drove straight toward her school.
When I finally parked across the street from the school gates, a sudden wave of worry hit me right in the gut. My hands grew sweaty against the steering wheel.
A terrible thought crossed my mind. What if Amelia didn’t want to see me? What if she screamed or ran away because I was basically a stranger to her?
But the exact opposite happened. The moment the school bell rang and the kids started pouring out, innocent little Amelia spotted me walking toward the gates.
Instead of being scared, her entire face lit up with a giant, beautiful smile. She actually ran right to me, her little backpack bouncing against her shoulders.
The classes had just closed for the day. Before the regular school bus could even assemble all the remaining students, I took her small hand in mine and led her away to my car.
Amelia was so incredibly happy to be sitting inside my big, expensive sports car. She bounced up and down on the leather seat, looking out the clear window. Suddenly, she spotted one of her little classmates walking by on the sidewalk.
She rolled the window down, pointed happily at me, and shouted at the top of her lungs, “Kira, look! This is my daddy!” She said it with so much intense pride, just to prove to her friend and everyone else that she finally had a father of her own.
Hearing those exact words come out of her tiny mouth made me instantly emotional. My throat tightened up completely, and a painful lump formed in my chest.
I had to look away for a second and swallow hard just to keep myself from breaking down and crying right in front of her.
Amelia turned around in the passenger seat, her big, intelligent eyes looking up at me with total seriousness.
“You need to call my mummy right now and tell her I am with you,” she said, her voice sounding so mature. “Tell her quickly so she won’t be worried about where I am.”

I stared at her, completely amazed by her smartness. She was so young, yet she was already worrying about her mother’s peace of mind.
I knew deep down inside my heart that Aria would want to murder me the exact moment she found out what I had done. I knew she would be violently furious, but I felt like I had no choice anymore.
I couldn’t let this moment go. I pulled out my phone and quickly typed out a short text message to Aria.
Amelia is with me. She is perfectly safe. I will bring her back home to the apartment before dawn.
Before Aria could even read the text or send back a furious, threatening response, I completely switched off my phone. The screen went black.
I tossed the dead phone onto the floorboards by the passenger seat, hit the gas, and started driving away from the schoo
Amelia looked out the window as we passed the city streets and suddenly turned to me. “Can you take me to the park. daddy?” she asked innocently.
I gladly agreed. I would have taken her anywhere she wanted. I drove her straight to the city park, and for the next few hours, I just stood by the sidelines near the benches and watched her play.
I watched her run up the slides, swing on the swings, and laugh with total joy. As I stood there watching her every move, it hit me like a physical blow, she looked like a perfect, beautiful combination of myself and Aria.
She had Aria’s cheek and my gorgeous eyes. The resemblance was so clear. There was absolutely no denying that this little girl was my exact blood.
After a long time, Amelia ran back over to me, wiping a few drops of sweat from her forehead. She looked up at me with a deeply curious expression on her small face. “Are you my mother’s husband?” she asked out of nowhere.
I blinked, completely caught off guard by the heavy question. “Why do you ask that, sweetie?”
“Because my teacher taught us that a mother’s husband is a father,” Amelia explained, her voice completely pure and simple. “And she said that altogether, they make one family. Families are supposed to be staying together in the very same house. So why don’t we stay together with mummy?”
The innocent question brought instant, hot tears to my eyes. It felt like a heavy fist had just punched me straight in the chest. I couldn’t find the words to answer her.
How could I tell this sweet, innocent little child the truth? How could I explain that I was a crazy fool who had broken her mother’s heart and abandoned them for five years because of my stupid pride?
I couldn’t do it. So, I just brushed the heavy question aside with a tight, sad smile and quickly changed the subject to get her mind off it.
I knew right then that I had completely messed up my entire life, and more than anything in the world, I wanted to fix it.
After the long day at the park, the sky turned completely dark. The streetlights flickered on, and I knew it was time. I drove her back to Aria’s apartment complex, my heart pounding against my ribs the entire way.
The moment the front door swung open, I saw Aria standing there. She was absolutely seething with a wild, terrifying anger. I could see her whole body trembling with rage, but she forced herself to keep it under control for Amelia’s sake.
She didn’t want to scare the little girl. Aria didn’t say a single word to me. She just gave me a deadly glare, gently took Amelia from my arms, and carried her straight into the bedroom.
I stood in the quiet living room, waiting. I could hear the faint sound of Aria cleaning Amelia up, whispering sweet things to her, and tucking her safely into her bed.

A few minutes later, the bedroom door clicked open, and Aria walked back out into the living room to face me.

She had already changed out of her daytime clothes. She was wearing a short, incredibly soft pink nightwear. It was a delicate fabric that exposed a lot of her smooth, bare thighs.
She marched right up to me, stopping just a foot away, her arms crossed tightly over her chest. Her eyes were flashing with fire, ready to scream at me for taking our daughter without her permission.
But as she opened her mouth to start yelling, I completely lost my train of thought. My eyes dropped down. I couldn’t help it. My gaze became glued straight to her body, completely focused and unmoving on her exposed skin.
She was completely breathtaking, and the anger radiating off her only made my heart beat faster.
