ARIA’S POV
The girl didn’t even try to hide her expression.

Her lips curled slightly as her eyes dragged over me from head to toe, slow and deliberate. Like she was inspecting something beneath her.
“Didn’t expect to see you here,” she said, her tone dripping with mock surprise.
I straightened slightly, tightening my grip on the dress in my hand. “I could say the same.”
A soft scoff left her. “Please. This place isn’t for people like you.”
My brows furrowed. “Excuse me?”
“You heard me,” she said, stepping closer, her voice lowering but somehow still loud enough to carry. “This isn’t some thrift store you wander into just to feel included.”
A few heads turned.
Heat crept up my neck.
She smirked when she noticed. “Or what? Did you come here to touch things you can’t afford?” she continued. “Take pictures and pretend you belong?”
My fingers curled tighter around the fabric.
“I think you should leave,” she added casually. “Before you embarrass yourself further.”
A small laugh escaped her, sharp and mocking. “You’re just a broke scholarship girl, Aria. Let’s be honest. Even if you saved up for a year, you still couldn’t buy a single dress here.”
The words hit. Not because they were true. But because of how loudly she said them. More people were looking now. Whispers. Judgmental glances.
My chest tightened slightly, but I forced myself to stay still. To stay composed.
“I didn’t come here to argue with you,” I said calmly, lifting my chin slightly. “So you can either mind your business… or keep embarrassing yourself. Your choice.”
For a split second, her expression flickered. Then it hardened. “Oh, you think you can talk back now?” she snapped.
Before I could respond, another voice cut in. “What’s going on here?” We both turned.
A woman approached, elegant, well-dressed, her presence commanding attention without effort. There was no doubt about it.

The girl’s posture changed instantly. “Mom,” she said, her voice shifting into something softer. Almost pitiful.
I blinked. Of course. “This is the girl I told you about,” she continued quickly, pointing at me. “The one who attacked me.”
My eyes widened slightly. “That’s not…”
“She’s the one who caused a scene,” the girl added, cutting me off smoothly. “She’s been causing trouble for me since school started.”
I stared at her. Unbelievable,. She didn’t mention the insult. Didn’t mention what she had done. Didn’t mention how it ended.
Just twisted it. Completely.
The woman’s gaze snapped to me, sharp and cold. “You,” she said, stepping forward. “How dare you come into my store after what you did to my daughter?”
My heart skipped.
“I didn’t…”
She didn’t let me finish. Her hand lifted. Fast. Too fast. I didn’t even have time to react. But it never landed. Because something stopped it. Mid-air.
The woman froze. So did I. My gaze followed her arm… to the hand wrapped firmly around her wrist.
Julian. He stood there, his expression dark, his grip tight enough to make the woman wince slightly.
For a second, no one spoke. The entire boutique fell silent. “Don’t you fucking dare,” he said quietly.
His voice wasn’t loud. But it carried. Sharp. Controlled. Dangerous. The woman’s eyes widened slightly as she turned to him. And just like that, everything about her changed.
“J-Julian?” she stammered, her tone instantly shifting. Recognition. Fear. Respect. All at once.
He didn’t release her immediately. His gaze stayed on her, cold and unyielding. “You were about to do what, exactly?”
“I…I didn’t realize-” she started quickly, pulling her hand back the moment his grip loosened.
Her daughter looked between them, confused. “Mom, what are you—”
“Be quiet,” the woman snapped under her breath, panic already creeping into her voice. That alone made my stomach twist. Because something was very wrong.Very different.
The woman turned back to Julian, forcing a tight smile. “You don’t have to involve yourself in this,” she said quickly. “This girl…”

The girl’s mouth dropped open. “What?” The woman looked like the ground had just been ripped out from
under her.
“Y-your…?” she stammered, her eyes flickering to me and back to him like she couldn’t process it.
Julian didn’t repeat himself. He didn’t need to. The tension in the room shifted instantly. And then something else hit. Something heavier.
Because I saw it in the woman’s eyes. Fear. Real fear.
“This boutique…” she started, her voice suddenly unsteady, “it’s supported by your mother’s foundation, we’ve always been grateful…”
Julian didn’t react. “And we’ve maintained everything properly, I assure you…”
“Have you?” he asked calmly.
Her voice caught.
“I…of course…”
