Chapter 403
The window exploded outward.
Shards scattered into the night as icy air rushed into the room. I slammed into the balcony railing outside.
For a moment the world spun again.
Show whipped around us in the freezing wind now pouring through the shattered opening.
Inside the penthouse Viktor fired twice.
The gunshots cracked through the air.
Both bullets struck Lazarus in the back.
The vampire barely reacted.
He turned slowly toward Viktor, his expression bored.
“You humans and your toys,” he muttered.
I moved before he could continue.
My claws slammed into his side, driving him into the wall hard enough to crack the plaster behind him.
This time I didn’t stop.
The wolf had fully taken over.
Claws.
Teeth.
Pure fury.
We tore across the penthouse like a storm, smashing furniture and splintering wood as the fight raged through the room Every blow he landed sent waves of pain through my body, but every strike I delivered drew more blood than he had anticipated
Gradually…
The amusement vanished from his face.

“You’re persistent,” Lazarus hissed.
Blood dripped steadily from the wounds across his chest now.
Healing slower than before.
Good.
That meant he was burning through energy.
I could feel the same happening to me.
My ribs throbbed.
My shoulder burned where he had struck earlier.
But I had something he didn’t.
Rage.
Aurora’s face flashed through my mind for an instant.

A
The way she had looked standing in that room in Russia-exhausted, shaking, covered in blood-and still asking about the girls who had been left behind.
The memory fueled me.
My claws struck again, slicing across the vampire’s throat.
Lazarus staggered.
Just enough.
Just long enough.
The rhythm of the fight shifted.
His balance faltered for a fraction of a second, his heel sliding on the marble floor slick with blood.
That moment was all my wolf needed.
My paws slammed against the ground as I lunged again, claws scraping the flour as my full weight crashed into him. The force drove him several steps back before he twisted aside, barely avoiding my jaws snapping shut around his neck

His speed remained terrifying.
Even injured.
Even bleeding.
He moved like smoke slipping between fingers, disappearing from one place only to appear a few feet away again.
But something had changed.
The arrogance had faded.
“You’re persistent,” Lazarus repeated, breathing slightly heavier as he wiped blood from his lip.
A low growl rumbled through my chest.
Snow drifted through the shattered window behind us, carried inside by the wind whispering through the broken glass. The penthouse looked like a battlefield-splintered furniture, cracked marble, glittering shards scattered across the floor.
Behind me I heard Anastasia’s shaky breathing.

She hadn’t moved from where Viktor had helped her stand. Pressed against the wall, she stared at us in silent shock, unsure whether to
run or remain frozen.
Lazarus glanced at her briefly.
Then back to me.
“You really came all this way,” he said slowly, “for a human girl.”
I answered by launching forward again.
This time I aimed for his chest.
My claws tore through the remains of his coat, ripping across his ribs and sending another spray of dark blood across the floor. Lazarus hissed sharply and slammed his elbow down onto my back with brutal force.
Pain shot through my spine.
The blow knocked me sideways.
But I didn’t fall.
