"You did very well," Joseph praised her. "Leave the rest to me."

"Okay."

She told him which station they were heading to, and he replied in a deep, steady voice, "I'll be there in about half an hour. Call me if anything comes up."

Knowing Joseph was taking over, Vivica felt a wave of relief wash over her. But as the tension eased, the pain sharpened. Her cheek throbbed, feeling numb to the touch, and a dull ache spread through her head.

At the station, the three of them were separated. Fletcher was taken to an interrogation room, while Vivica was seated in the main office area to give her statement. Due to a shortage of staff, Riley was left handcuffed to a chair nearby to wait her turn.

Seeing Vivica talking to an officer, Riley couldn't resist shouting a threat. "Vivica, you better not lie! Making false accusations is a crime, you know."

Vivica turned and gave her a small, knowing smile. "Why are you so nervous?"

"Who's nervous? I'm just worried you'll put on an act and fool the officers," Riley retorted, then addressed the officer taking the statement. "Officer, this woman is an expert at—"

"That's enough! This is a police matter. It’s not your place to interfere!" another officer cut her off sharply.

As she gave her statement, Vivica could occasionally hear Fletcher's roars of outrage from the interrogation room. He was yelling about being framed, demanding a lawyer, and refusing to cooperate.

Vivica smirked to herself. She couldn't comprehend their arrogance, brazenly returning to her home to carry on their affair in her bed. She had been worried she didn't have enough evidence to bury the scumbag, but then he and his mistress had gift-wrapped it for her. It just went to show: pride really does come before a fall.

After answering all the questions, Vivica submitted the evidence from her phone. She was still finalizing her statement when Joseph arrived in a hurry.
