As the thought crossed her mind, Vivica quickly pushed it away. “I must be overthinking things. He’s probably just this dedicated because of Chaim, and because I’m letting my son spend time with his parents. That has to be it.”
The doctor conducted a thorough examination. Vivica had assumed her injuries were minor, but they were more serious than she’d thought. In addition to multiple soft tissue contusions on her face, she had a mild concussion and a strained muscle in her right arm.
As the doctor filled out the assessment form, Vivica asked quietly, "Are these injuries enough to hold the abuser legally responsible?"
The doctor didn't look up from his paperwork. "These are classified as minor injuries, which typically only result in an administrative penalty. For criminal charges to be filed, the injuries would need to be classified as serious."
Vivica was stunned. Half her face was disfigured, it hurt to talk, her right hand trembled with pain when she made a fist, and her head was ringing—and all of that was considered 'minor.'
"Mr. Baird, the report is ready," the doctor said, handing the documents to Joseph. He then added to Vivica, "But with Mr. Baird representing you, there might be some room to maneuver."
Vivica's eyes lit up with hope as she looked at Joseph.
Back in the car, she couldn't help but ask, "Can you really 'maneuver' it?"
Joseph glanced up from the report, his tone cool and distant. "I am a law-abiding attorney."
So that was a no. Vivica let go of the fantasy.
"However," he continued, "the security footage shows that woman attacking you alongside Fletcher. That can be classified as a group assault, which elevates the severity of the offense."
