"Moving? But I thought you said the hearing wasn't until Friday. Why the rush?"
Late the previous night, after Chaim had fallen asleep, Vivica had messaged Quintina on WhatsApp, giving her a brief rundown of the past few days' events.
Quintina, of course, had been furious on her behalf. So, with her day off, her first thought was to meet her friend for a meal, let her vent, and offer some support.
Vivica explained, "Mr. Baird advised me to act quickly, just in case Fletcher has a change of heart."
"He's got a point there!" Quintina immediately agreed. "But that means you'll definitely need an extra pair of hands. I'll come help you. It'll go faster."
"Okay."
...
At lunchtime, Vivica rushed home from work to find Quintina already waiting downstairs.
Seeing Vivica's face, Quintina gasped. "That bastard really did a number on you! It's been days, and you still have bruises."
Vivica gave a wry smile. "Well, if a beating is what it took for him to walk away with nothing, I guess it was worth it."
"Don't you ever do something so foolish again," Quintina said, her voice full of concern. "No matter what, your safety comes first."
"Of course. There won't be a next time."
"You probably haven't eaten. Here, have a few bites of this." Quintina handed her a bag with lunch inside.
Vivica's eyes welled with gratitude. "Quintina, thank you so much. I don't know how I'll ever repay you for your kindness."
Vivica shook her head vehemently. "Don't play matchmaker. How could that ever happen? We're from completely different worlds, it's an impossible gap. Besides, his parents don't even know Chaim is their biological grandson."
Quintina blinked. "You're still keeping it a secret?"
"Yes. Mr. Baird said to. I don't really understand why."
"Okay… but I don't think you're worlds apart. Once the lawsuit is settled, you'll be a multi-millionaire yourself. You're young, beautiful, educated, and have a good job. And another thing—even though you were married, Fletcher couldn't perform. You two never even… you know. In a way, you're not like other divorced women. How are you not good enough for Mr. Baird?"
Vivica frowned, embarrassed. "Have you ever met a 'girl' who's already had a child?"
Quintina nudged her shoulder. "Oh, come on, you know what I mean. My point is, I think you should consider it. But that Mr. Baird… from what I saw of him, he's so stern and serious. You'd probably have to be the one to make the first move."
