Her words were cut short by her phone ringing. She pulled it out and saw the name on the screen: Joseph Baird.

Quintina leaned over for a peek. "Mr. Baird? Answer it!"

Vivica shot her friend a look, a strange expression on her face. "Why are you in such a hurry?"

Quintina grinned wickedly. "Ooh, that look on your face tells me something's going on."

"No, there isn't! You're just imagining things!" Vivica opened the apartment door, motioning for her friend to go inside first while she deliberately hung back to answer the call.

"Hello, Mr. Baird."

"The county records office notified me that you can go in to confirm the information whenever you're free."

Joseph's call was about the change to Chaim's legal name.

Vivica was taken aback. "That was fast."

"Yes, I had it expedited."

Suddenly, a thought occurred to her. "I left my contact information with them that day. Why did they notify you?"

Sitting in his office, Joseph was momentarily stumped by the question. Fortunately, he was quick-witted. He replied smoothly, "I was there on other business this morning and asked about it while I was there."

As a lawyer, he regularly dealt with various government departments. It was unlikely Vivica would press him for details about his other business.

She was in the middle of explaining her reasoning when Joseph cut her off. "It was just a suggestion. Don't give it too much thought. Let's aim for noon next Monday. I'll remind you then."

After hanging up, Vivica slipped off her shoes and walked inside.

Quintina looked over, her eyes wide with curiosity. "What did Mr. Baird want? More talk about the lawsuit?"

"No…" Vivica shook her head. "He had suggested I change Chaim's last name, and he even went with me to the records office to submit the application. He was calling to let me know it was approved and that I need to go in to confirm the details."

Quintina's eyes widened further. "Don't tell me he changed it to Baird?"

"Of course not. He's taking my last name. Chaim Lynn."
