The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 203

“Evelyn, your daughter is gorgeous, like a movie star,” the old man lingered at the door, still staring at Vivica. He clicked his tongue. “What happened to her face, though? Such a shame to spoil a pretty face like that.”

“Get out!” Vivica repeated, her voice sharp.

The old man muttered a curse under his breath and left.

Vivica closed her eyes, forcing herself to calm down before turning back to Evelyn. “Have you no shame? How could you do something like that? The man reeked of old age, how could you stand it!”

Evelyn sank onto the sofa, smoothing her hair. Her face was a cold mask. “And whose fault is that? You’re the one who got your father and brother thrown in jail. The restaurant had to close down. How am I supposed to survive on my own? That old man has money, and he’s generous. I’m seriously thinking about divorcing your father and moving in with him.”

As she spoke, she fiddled with the gold chain around her neck.

Vivica was speechless with rage. But then, the thought that this woman wasn't her biological mother brought a strange sense of relief.

“He’s just using you for fun, and you’re actually taking him seriously?” Vivica said, trying to shatter her delusion.

Evelyn responded with shameless indifference. “So what if he is? He’s not the only lonely old guy at the community center. If he doesn’t want me, someone else will.”

Vivica shook her head in disgust, finding it hard to believe she had lived with this person for over twenty years, calling her ‘Mom’.

Evelyn’s eyes narrowed. “Why did you suddenly show up here anyway? Did you finally grow a conscience and decide to get your father and brother out?”

Vivica didn’t answer. She walked into the living room and pulled out the DNA test report.

“I came back for this,” she said, holding it out.

Evelyn glanced at it impatiently. “What is it?”

She took the papers, her expression dismissive. But as she read the words on the page, her face went rigid, and her eyes widened in horror.

“You…” Evelyn shot to her feet, stumbling over her words. “Th-this… when did you do a DNA test? How… how did you do it?”

Seeing her reaction, Vivica knew everything. “So it’s true. I’m not your biological daughter.”

“Growing up, I never once suspected you weren’t my real parents. I just remember that after my brother was born, you started treating me worse and worse, always favoring him. I thought it was just because you preferred sons over daughters, but I never imagined… it was because I wasn’t yours. Once you had your own child, your own son, why would you care about a daughter who wasn’t even yours?”

The realization dawned on her, and she almost felt grateful. Grateful that they had treated her so unfairly, so cruelly. It was the only reason the truth didn't hurt as much as it should have.

“Regardless, you raised me, and I owe you for that. But over the years, I’ve given you more than enough money to repay that debt. Let’s just say we’re even.”

Vivica looked at the silent woman on the sofa, took a moment to compose herself, and then asked the most important question.

“Since I’m not your biological child, how did I end up here? Where are my real parents? Why did you adopt me?”

Evelyn kept her head down, her hands trembling slightly in her lap. After a long silence, she finally spoke in a low voice. “We found you at the train station. We didn’t have any children yet, so we took you home.”

“Is that so? Which train station? Is there anyone who can verify that?” Vivica didn’t believe her. Everything that had happened recently, including what she’d witnessed today, proved the Lynn family was morally bankrupt. This story was likely another lie.

“It was over twenty years ago, who can remember? The point is, you were found,” Evelyn said flatly.
