“How can words be as intuitive as a moving picture?” Joseph countered. “Besides, text is much easier to forge. I recorded that video directly from the computer screen.”
Vivica had no response. The sun was beating down, and she could feel sweat trickling down her back. Joseph’s words only made her feel hotter.
“Forget it. Since you’ve been so agreeable today, I’ll let it slide,” Joseph said, magnanimously letting her off the hook when he knew she was cornered.
Vivica breathed a sigh of relief.
Then he suddenly said, “Today is the third day.”
After a moment of silence, Vivica replied, “I already agreed. Why are you counting the days? It’s not like I’m going to run away.”
Joseph chuckled. “You couldn’t even if you wanted to.”
He was flying to Glenburgh City on business tomorrow, and after he finished, he planned to go to Sydville to find her and personally “capture” her to bring her back. If he weren't worried about his parents handling Chaim at night, he would have flown to Sydville tonight.
Thinking about how much she had been looking forward to hearing from him these past few days, Vivica clutched her phone and murmured, “I won’t run. You hold the trump card.”
Her son was her entire world. She could give up anything in her life, but never him.
Before they could finish their conversation, Vivica glanced up and saw two figures walking out of the office building. One of them was Raymond. She intended to pretend she hadn't seen them and turn away, but he had already spotted her and was walking in her direction.
Vivica’s nerves tightened. “Uh… a colleague is coming over. I have to go. We can talk tonight when I’m back at the hotel.”
Hearing the sudden tension in her voice, Joseph responded with a low grunt of affirmation.
Vivica hung up and turned to greet the man. “Mr. Smith, finished with lunch?”
Raymond stopped at a polite social distance. “Ms. Lynn, you’re done already? I hope the cafeteria food was to your liking.”
...
By Thursday, Vivica and her team had nearly completed their work.
The company had originally booked their return flights for Friday morning, which would have landed them in Riverdale by noon. However, a blizzard hit Riverdale, causing widespread flight delays and cancellations.
On Thursday afternoon, Vivica and her colleagues all received notifications from the airline. After consulting with the team, Zavier cancelled their flights and booked tickets for the high-speed train back to Riverdale instead.
The train journey would take six hours, and the earliest tickets they could get were for 11 a.m., meaning they wouldn’t arrive in Riverdale until seven in the evening.
Vivica was a little disappointed and told Joseph about the change on WhatsApp.
At that moment, Joseph’s flight had just landed in Glenburgh City. The snow in Riverdale was still light, so his plane had departed without issue. He had also just received a notification that his flight back tomorrow was likely to be delayed or cancelled.
