The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 294

Melanie smiled warmly. “It’s because Chaim is such a good boy. You’ve raised him so well; he’s very well-behaved.”

Vivica had grown accustomed to the Baird family’s graciousness, but hearing those words from Melanie still touched her heart. She felt incredibly fortunate to have met such a wonderful family.

Although she had eaten lunch on the train, Melanie had the kitchen prepare another meal for her.

“You can’t possibly be full from train food. You’ve lost weight on your trip, so you need to eat more,” Melanie insisted, ushering her to the table.

Vivica began to wonder. Joseph said she’d lost weight, and now Melanie was saying it too. Had a few days away really made that much of a difference?

She sat down to eat, and Chaim immediately squeezed onto her lap, wanting to be fed. She ate her own meal while giving him bites from her plate.

Melanie sat beside them and asked casually, “So, did Joseph leave you at the station?”

“Ahem! Cough, cough…” Vivica choked abruptly, startling Chaim.

Melanie quickly had a maid bring her a glass of water.

“What are you so flustered about? Joseph didn’t tell us directly, but Glenburgh City is so close to Sydville, I figured he’d go over to pick you up and come back with you,” Melanie explained with a gentle laugh, pushing the glass toward her.

Vivica took a sip of water, but her cheeks were still burning. “He came to see me last night for a late dinner and then left…” she mumbled, hoping to imply that nothing improper had happened.

After all, the Baird elders had tried to set him up with countless debutantes and heiresses over the years. On a good day, he might grant them a single meeting. When he was busy, he simply stood them up.

Melanie had long given up on her eldest son’s marital prospects, but then came this unexpected turn of events. The cost of that turn, however, had been immense—the loss of her younger son.

“But even if we have a child, there’s no guarantee it will save Chaim. I’m afraid that in the end—” The thought sent a sharp shiver of pain through Vivica.

Melanie sighed, her eyes clouding with sorrow. “If that’s the case, we’ll have to accept it. But I believe that since Lennon gave us this hope, he wouldn’t be so cruel as to take it away. I’m sure Chaim will be cured.”

Her words offered Vivica a small measure of comfort. When she was younger, she never believed in fate or destiny. But as she got older, she found herself believing more and more in a preordained path. She, too, felt that the brave and noble spirit of Lennon would surely watch over Chaim.
