While the words weren't overly dramatic, they once again made Roderic look at his boss in a whole new light.
Love truly had the power to transform a person completely, making them hopelessly devoted and causing even the hardest of hearts to bloom.
As a staunchly pragmatic single man, even he was starting to feel a little envious.
The train pulled into Riverdale City at eight in the evening.
During the drive back to Greenbelt Villa, Joseph called his parents.
He didn't mention Vivica's pregnancy.
He simply told them they had arrived in Riverdale City but it was late, so they wouldn't swing by to pick up Chaim tonight. They would sort it out when they had time, or have a driver drop him off the next day.
When he hung up, Vivica suggested, "Let's go over there for dinner tomorrow night. We can pick up Chaim and share the good news with your parents."
"Tomorrow is Sunday, but I still have to put in some hours at the office. If I finish early enough, we'll head to the estate for dinner."
Joseph deliberately kept the news from his parents over the phone because he knew if he told them, they'd be so overjoyed they'd immediately rush over to see Vivica, regardless of the late hour.
They had been traveling all day and were exhausted; he just wanted his wife to get some rest.
"Tomorrow morning, I'm taking you to see Harvey Murphy for a comprehensive checkup," Joseph announced.
Vivica looked confused. "I thought you had to work this weekend?"
"I do. But taking you to the doctor comes first."
Everything had a priority.
Right now, his pregnant wife was at the absolute top of the list.
Work wouldn't fall apart; it could wait a few hours.
Vivica understood his meaning and couldn't help but laugh. "Who knew the intimidating Mr. Baird had such a cute side?"
Joseph helped her dress, then retreated to the bathroom to wash up himself.
Leaning against the headboard, Vivica thought about the tiny life finally growing inside her, her heart still racing with pure joy.
She rested her hand on her flat stomach, speaking silently to the baby. *Welcome to the world, little one. You're going to have a mom and dad who love you more than anything, grandparents who will adore you, and...*
Her expression faltered for a fraction of a second, her thoughts pausing before she continued: *And... grandparents on my side who will love you too.*
*Oh, and you have a big brother.*
*You're going to be the most spoiled, beloved little baby in this entire family.*
Just thinking about it made Vivica feel as though she were enveloped in a warm cocoon of absolute happiness.
