It wasn't exactly the most morally upright advice. But for someone who wanted to get married but dreaded the idea of struggling financially, finding a wealthy man was objectively the most pragmatic solution.
And it wasn't like he was significantly older or unattractive. The man was young, successful, handsome, had a thriving career, and came from old money. Most women would be tripping over themselves to lock him down.
Quintina scoffed, sitting up to pour herself another cup of fruit tea. "It's not just a matter of me deciding to 'give him a chance.' A guy with Harvey's resume being single this long? That only points to one thing."
Vivica leaned in, hooked. "What thing?"
Quintina looked her dead in the eye and delivered her verdict. "He's definitely harboring some unforgettable true love in his heart."
"..." Vivica blinked. "Wait... seriously? How did you even figure that out?"
"Gut instinct," Quintina said with utter confidence. "From the time I've spent around him, I can just feel it. He's clearly not a blank slate like your husband. But for a guy with a dating history to willingly endure such a long dry spell? It means someone's taking up space in his head, and he refuses to settle for less."
She had absolutely zero interest in trying to squeeze into a heart that was already occupied by another woman.
Vivica fell silent. Her own romantic experience was pretty limited, so she wasn't exactly an expert on how men operated. Seeing how convinced her best friend was, she wasn't sure how to argue back.
"Anyway, stop worrying about my love life. I'm perfectly happy being single and free. Relationships are all about timing. If I never meet the right guy, I'm not going to force a marriage just for the sake of it." Quintina clearly wanted to shut the conversation down.
"Alright, fair enough. You can't force these things. If you really aren't into him, then forget it."
Vivica let the topic drop, but then remembered something else.
Quintina laughed. "How could I not? Don't forget I'm an OB-GYN. Do you have any idea how many women ask me this during their checkups?"
People were much more open these days. Things that used to be strictly taboo were now discussed casually in the examination room. Sometimes it was the expectant mothers asking; sometimes it was the anxious fathers. Whenever the question came up, she always gave a straight answer based on the patient's actual medical condition.
"So?" Vivica asked, pushing past her embarrassment because she really needed the answer. "Can we? You know I never had to worry about this when I was pregnant with Chaim, but things are different now."
"Different how? Is Mr. Baird getting restless?" The gossip clearly outweighed the medical consultation for Quintina right now.
"No, he hasn't said a word about it. But I just feel like... as his wife, I should be considerate of these things. It's about being responsible for my own body, but also protecting the babies."
"Well, you're not wrong. With how well he treats you, it's totally fair to consider his needs. But... considering you're having twins, I really can't give you a green light."
