The IVF Secret That Shook a Dynasty novel Chapter 76

Joseph had been about to say, “a young son who is seriously ill,” but then he remembered that this son was also his own, a son he couldn't acknowledge. That meant a portion of this bad luck was his, too. He trailed off.

“Ms. Lynn’s life is just so tragic,” Roderic sighed again.

Joseph’s gaze remained fixed on the woman in the video, who was visibly overwhelmed with grief but still trying to maintain her composure. His brow furrowed tightly.

“Look, boss, even the police couldn’t stand it and spoke up for Ms. Lynn, but her parents don’t see a single thing wrong with what they’re doing!” Roderic was both sympathetic and agitated after watching the whole clip. “Boss, we should help Ms. Lynn. It’s too hard for a single woman with a child.”

Joseph pulled his eyes away from the screen, his voice retaining its usual cool detachment. “I’ve never seen you show such compassion for a woman before.”

“No, no,” Roderic said hastily, trying to explain. “Boss, don’t get the wrong idea! I just can’t stand injustice. Ms. Lynn’s husband and parents are just awful people.”

“As lawyers, we must never interfere in our clients’ destinies. All we can do is help her win her case,” Joseph said dismissively, returning to his files.

Roderic deflated. “I understand. I just got carried away…”

He turned back around, and Joseph continued to stare at the file, but his mind kept replaying the video. Yesterday, he had asked Vivica if she would bail her brother out again. He knew she hadn’t wanted to. But when faced with her parents threatening to kill themselves, she had no choice but to give in. If she hadn’t, and they had died, her life would have been ruined.

But that compromise had surely torn open old wounds, creating a rift with her parents that could never be repaired. She must be feeling heartbroken right now, maybe even hopeless. He wondered if she would find a secluded spot again, to stand alone in the cold and cry her heart out.

His gaze shifted. Joseph took out his phone and opened his chat with Vivica. His long fingers tapped the screen as he began to type.

Opening WhatsApp, she saw it was a message from Joseph and suddenly remembered he had been helping with her son.

She opened the chat, and her eyes widened. She sat bolt upright, a spark returning to her gaze.

So soon? Just yesterday he had told her he would arrange the best medical team for Chaim’s treatment. Only a single night had passed, and he had already delivered on his promise.

Vivica’s heart, which had been steeped in grief, suddenly soared with joy. She kept whispering, “This is wonderful, this is wonderful.”

[Thank you, Mr. Baird. I can’t believe you arranged everything so quickly. Thank you so much.]
