The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 179

Amy’s ears flushed pink. She lowered her voice, almost whispering, “I just… want to be your friend.”

Before she could say more, Petty swung her into a bear hug.

Amy froze, stiff as a statue.

Petty buried her face against Amy’s shoulder, breathing in the scent of her perfume. The stress seemed to melt away a little. She grinned and said, “See? Why didn’t you just say so? If you keep acting all shy, I’m going to start thinking you want to date me or something.”

Amy let out a sharp laugh. “Are you crazy?” But Petty didn’t let go, squeezing a little tighter.

Petty gave her a gentle pat on the back. “Seriously, thanks. What would I have done without you? Everyone was out to tear me apart today!”

Amy smirked and flicked her hair back. “Please. You’ve never seen me online. If anyone comes for you, I’ll roast them so hard, their own parents won’t even recognize them.”

She slipped out of Petty’s arms, straightened her shirt, and strutted towards the elevator, totally fired up.

Petty couldn’t help but laugh as she watched Amy’s back disappear through the closing doors. A message popped up on her phone—it was from Malcom.

[At the bus stop outside the station.]

He was here already?

Petty grabbed her mask and slipped it on. She knew entertainment reporters liked to lurk around, so she took the side exit. A shining Mercedes caught her eye before she even made it to the bus stop.

She hurried over, jumped in, and pulled the door shut. As she clicked her seatbelt, she heard Malcom let out a couple of coughs.

Instant panic. “Wait, did I get you sick?”

Malcom tensed, pausing for a split second.

Petty started muttering, her frustration building, “Ugh, Owen’s fault. I must’ve caught something from him that night and then probably passed it on to you in the car.”

Malcom relaxed a bit, glancing at her before turning back to the road and starting the engine.
