The Last Time I Cried Your Name novel Chapter 184

There was nothing left in this world that could clear the Lane family’s name.

He’d been searching for so many years, but every shred of evidence still pointed straight at them.

This was the end of the line. The black box data would say it all.

His parents’ private jet had always been under Gavin’s direct care. Gavin, hungry for more, had gotten in bed with some ruthless players at the border. That cost his parents their lives, and in the end, those same so-called allies turned on Gavin, bringing down the Lane family for good. Some call it karma. Maybe it was. Maybe it was the closest thing to peace he could offer his parents now.

Aaron was still shaking when he finally caught up to Petty. He never thought she could run so fast. If Jay had been even a second slower, she would have been hit by the car. What could drive someone to throw themselves in danger like that? What could she possibly be thinking?

The car’s hood stopped just a few feet in front of her, the screech of the brakes sending a jolt racing through her chest. Petty’s eyes cut through the windshield, searching out the face in the backseat. Franco. The same face she used to dream about when she was younger, but seeing him now only made her heart ache even more.

Franco, I’m here for the truth.

The car door swung open. Franco stepped out onto the damp ground. The midday snow had already melted, leaving the roadside wet and dark.

Behind his glasses, Franco’s gaze was shadowed and unreadable.

“Do you have a death wish?” His voice was cold.

“Did my father kill your parents?” Petty asked at the same moment, her words barely above a whisper.

She sounded so fragile, her voice as faint as smoke in a gust of wind, but every word struck Franco right in the heart. It was light, almost nothing, but he felt it like a storm freezing his blood.

Aaron, still the closest to Petty, stopped dead. He turned, wide-eyed, staring at Franco, who just looked back, cold and distant as ice.

Jay’s hand, halfway to grabbing the door handle, froze in the air. How did Petty find out? If there was anyone in the world Franco didn’t want to know the truth, it was her.

Wind swept across the street, rustling little broken branches across the ground to pile at Franco’s shoes.
