“It shouldn’t be much longer. We’ll probably hear the inside scoop in about a week, but the official announcement might take another two weeks.”
In other words, Petty would be leaving Cabinda in roughly half a month.
Laura couldn’t help but smile. It was honestly the best news she’d heard in ages.
“Where’d you get this bracelet?”
Following his gaze, Laura glanced at the ruby bracelet on her wrist. She lifted her arm a little, grinning. “Franco gave it to me.”
Nash looked a bit surprised.
Laura’s smile grew wider. “I heard Petty’s mother sold it right after the Lane family went bankrupt. Franco got it later at an auction.”
“That’s not it.” Nash took her hand, carefully unfastened the bracelet, and held it in his palm, examining it closely.
After a moment, he said with absolute certainty, “This isn’t the one.”
Laura’s smile froze in place, making her face look a little awkward. “Nash, you’re seeing things. You can’t be sure.”
Petty’s mother had been gone for years. When she was alive and married to Petty’s father, she and Nash had basically no connection. How would Nash know anything about the bracelet, much less whether this one was real?
Besides, since when did Franco give out fake stuff?
“The rubies are real, but this isn’t the same bracelet she owned,” Nash said, sounding sure.
Laura’s voice suddenly sharpened. “That’s impossible! I literally watched Franco win the bid at auction for eighty million. When I got back to the country and asked him for it, even the jewelry box was the original one. How could it not be real?”
Now Nash understood what she was hinting at.
So Franco hadn’t exactly gifted it to her out of the blue. She’d asked him for it.
Nash hadn’t spent much time with Franco, but he knew the man was honest. If he agreed to give something away, he’d never swap in a fake. If he didn’t want to, he’d say no.
“Maybe…” Nash mused, “the bracelet auctioned that day was already a fake.”

The next day after work, Petty headed to the gym. Malcom was already waiting for her inside.
