The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 302

Sean and Noah.

“Sorry, Serena, Nathan, Timothy… he insisted on seeing you,” Dennis said, looking regretful. “He is not doing well. He wants to explain his side.”

“I think he is hoping to get forgiveness and maybe, just maybe, he’d feel better,” Dennis added.

The couple looked at each other. Serena, for one, gripped her handbag tightly. For years, they had avoided Timothy.

Nathaniel’s previous investigation had suggested Timothy had a hand in driving a wedge between them. He worked with Vanessa and Milona to make sure Serena would walk away from Nathaniel in the past.

But Serena thought deeply. Either way, given what had happened, she would have still walked away.

Timothy developed an autoimmune disease that affected his nerves and muscles. From what Serena heard, he could no longer walk properly and had gradually lost control of his hands.

The couple was in Velmon. Serena had just completed her quarterly check-up with her doctors when Dennis came to find them at the research institute.

Nathaniel narrowed his eyes. “If the doctors can’t help him, then so—”

“Let’s just see him and be done with it,” Serena proposed.

Because Serena said it, Nathaniel agreed.

Soon, they drove into the Harlows’ private estate. The moment Timothy’s parents saw Serena and Nathaniel, they cried. Relief washed over them. Clearly, they had been hoping for this meeting as well. After all, Nathaniel had cut off the Harlows completely.

They found Timothy in their home’s backyard, seated in a wheelchair. He had grown painfully thin, and the once polished young man now looked exhausted and fragile. When he spotted them, he looked like he was about ready to cry.

Dennis was behind them. Timothy gave him a look of gratitude.

Later, the conversation started.

“I’m not asking for your forgiveness. I just want you both to know that I regretted everything,” Timothy said, his voice breaking in and out. “I regretted helping Vanessa. I regretted breaking you two apart.”

Timothy fixed his gaze on Serena. “I lied when I said you were not fit to be Nathan’s wife. If anything, you are a great person, kind and beautiful.”

Serena frowned. She asked, “Then why did you do the things you did?”

Nathaniel said nothing. He simply folded his arms against his chest.

Dennis, on the other hand, leaned in to listen.

“Serena, Nathan,” Timothy studied their faces. He glanced at Dennis, looking ashamed before admitting, “I had loved Serena since college.”

Serena, “...”

“I started liking her when you pursued her, Nathan,” Timothy shared.

He returned his attention to Serena and revealed, “I had tried to bury those feelings I had for you, Serena. I tried so hard, but it was difficult.”

“So, when the day came that Nathaniel decided to divorce you, I saw it as a chance,” he admitted. “I influenced Nathan the best way I could—told him it was the best decision of his life, and I worked with Vanessa to achieve it.”

“So, that’s why Vanessa would sometimes arrive when we had gatherings,” Nathaniel finally spoke.

“Yes, and a lot more,” Timothy added. “I tried to be the bridge between you and Vanessa, hoping it would spark romance.”

“Back then, I hoped you would leave Serena soon. Then, I had planned to pursue her at Oakridge University. But who would have thought that plane would crash and Serena would vanish into thin air?” Timothy said.

“And I did not know about Vanessa being Victor’s real daughter. She never told me that,” Timothy shared. “Had I known—”

He stopped himself, maybe realizing it no longer mattered.
