The Lies Behind Her Marriage novel Chapter 305

Serena’s Birthday - The End.

Serena was fast asleep when she heard whispers.

She felt a brush tickling her face and her eyes.

But she was so tired, she thought she was just dreaming and ignored all the sensations around her.

A few minutes later, her eyes blinked open.

The lights were on.

Giggles echoed through the bedroom, and footsteps could be heard on the floor.

“What did you do to your mom?”

At that point, Serena opened her eyes. “What’s going on?”

“Surprise!” Alisa exclaimed.

“Come on, guys, together,” Sebastian’s voice echoed. “Happy Birthday to you!”

Rochelle and Collin followed, singing the same song.

Later, though awkwardly, Nathaniel also sang the song.

Serena smiled. She finally sat up and studied her family.

Nathaniel was holding a small cake.

Collin was holding balloons.

Alisa was holding a banner that said, ‘Happy Birthday, Mommy Serena!’

Rochelle was clapping her hands, her fingers covered in sparkles.

And Sebastian was clapping his hands.

“To the best mom in the world, Happy Birthday!” Sebastian greeted.

Serena looked at the clock. It was minutes past midnight. She said, “Aww, thanks, guys. I did not expect this.”

She wiped the corners of her eyes, but after doing so, she immediately noticed glitter on her fingers.

Serena frowned before slowly looking at the children.

Rochelle smiled brightly and announced, “Mommy, my gift to you is a beautiful make-up.”

Rochelle quickly grabbed a mirror and handed it over proudly. “Look, Mommy. You are so beautiful!”

Nathaniel coughed.

When Serena saw her reflection, she looked mostly normal, but there were streaks of glitter aggressively smeared across her cheeks, forehead, and somehow even one eyebrow.

Worse, Rochelle apparently used different colors.

One side of Serena’s face shimmered pink. The other glittered silver like a disco ball, fighting for survival.

There was also a suspicious amount of glitter near her hairline.

“Do you like it, Mommy?” Rochelle asked innocently.

Nathaniel was giggling. He mouthed, ‘I swear, I did not know. I was getting the cake.’

Serena smiled at her daughter. “I love it, Sweetie.”

Next, Sebastian proudly handed Serena a printed certificate. “I bought you one share of a company because Dad said investing is love.”

Serena blinked. “…You’re seven.”

“Dad supervised,” Sebastian clarified.

Nathaniel nodded calmly from the side. “Financial literacy should begin early.”

Serena looked down at the paper again before freezing. “Sebastian… why did you invest in a chicken nugget company?”

Sebastian looked offended. “Because you love nuggets.”

“No, I don’t. You do,” Serena corrected.

“I just wanted you to get a great deal on buying chicken nuggets,” Sebastian reasoned.

“Either way, love, it’s a good company. You are never going to lose money,” Nathaniel said, chuckling. “He insisted on it.”

Serena chuckled. “Okay. Okay.” She hugged Sebastian and said, “Thank you, Bastin.”

Next, Alisa presented a jar with tiny notes for Serena. Alisa said, “Mom, these are all my birthday messages for you.”

Serena took her time to read through some of the notes:

[Mom, I love you.]

[Thank you for hugs.]

[Thank you for making pancakes.]

[Sorry for lying about brushing my teeth.]

Serena nearly choked on the last note, but the next one hit hard. She read: [I hope I become like you someday.]
