I studied her, searching for lies. But ally saw was genuine remorse and confusion.

“Aldric manipulated both of us,” I said slowly. “He created the bond between Damien and me to control me. And created one between you and Damien to ensure I’d be replaced when the time came.”

“Multiple insurance policies,” Katherine muttered. “He was thorough.”

“So what now?” Vivian looked at me. “I can’t undo what I did. I can’t take back the pain I caused. But I can leave. Go back to Shadowpine territory and never come back.”

Part of me wanted that. Wanted her gone, away from my pack, away from Damien, away from the reminder of betrayal.

But another part, the part that had grown through death and rebirth, saw something else.

“You’re as much a victim as I am,” I said finally. “Aldric used you, controlled you, turned you into a weapon

against me. I won’t punish you for that.”

“You should,” Vivian whispered. “I would, if I were you.”

“You’re not me. And I’m not interested in revenge anymore.” I stood, facing her properly. “I’m interested in justice. In making sure this never happens to anyone else.” I extended my hand. “So here’s my offer. Stay. Help me rebuild. Show the pack that even those who were used by the Council can change.”

Vivian stared at my hand like it was a snake. “Why would you do this?”

“Because someone showed me mercy today. Council Member Brennan stood against me, and I asked the Moon Goddess to spare him. To give him a chance to learn,” I kept my hand extended. “I’m giving you the

same chance.”

Slowly, hesitantly, Vivian took my hand.

“I don’t deserve this.”

“Probably not. But you’ll have the chance to earn it.” I released her hand. “Go home, Vivian. Think about what you want your future to look like. If you decide to stay and help, my door is open. If you decide to leave, I understand that too.”

Beta Cross looked at me with something like awe. “You’re remarkable, Luna Sera. Your mother would be

proud.”

“My mother would be terrified,” I corrected. “But hopefully proud too.”

After they left, Elena let out a low whistle. “That was either the smartest or stupidest thing you could have

done.”

“Time will tell.” I sank back onto the couch. “Right now, I just want to sleep for about twenty hours.”

“You can sleep after you eat,” Katherine said firmly. “You used an enormous amount of power today. Your

body needs fuel.”

As if on cue, my stomach growled.

Marcus smiled. “I’ll have the kitchen send–up food. And Sera? What you did with Vivian, showing her mercy… that’s real leadership.

I spent the next three days in a strange limbo.

The pack treats me differently now. With respect tinged with awe, sometimes fear. I was no longer just Luna. I was the woman the Moon Goddess had claimed as a daughter.

Damien avoided me completely. I saw him occasionally, always at a distance, looking lost and broken.

Part of me felt satisfied by that. He’d planned my death, after all. He deserved to suffer.

But another part, the part that remembered five years of believing our love was real, felt a twinge of pity.

On the third day, he finally knocked on my office door.

“Can we talk?”

I almost said no. I almost told him to leave, that we had nothing to discuss.

But Katherine’s words echoed: eventually, you’ll need to decide what to do about him.

“Come in.”

He looked terrible. Unshaven, red eyed, thinner than he’d been just days ago. The loss of the bond had clearly devastated him.

“I owe you an apology,” he said, standing awkwardly in front of my desk. “For everything. The affair, the lies, the plan to reject you, all of it.”

“Okay.”

He blinked. “Okay?”

“You apologized. I accept your apology.” I kept my voice neutral. “But that doesn’t mean I forgive you. Or that things go back to how they were.”

“I know. I don’t expect…” He ran a hand through his hair. “Sera, when the bond broke, I finally felt how artificial it was. How it had been pushing me toward choices I thought were mine but weren’t.” He met my eyes. “I don’t know if I ever really loved you. I don’t know if what I felt for Vivian was real, either. Everything is confused, and I don’t know who I am without that bond telling me what to feel.”

“Welcome to my world,” I said quietly. “I’ve been living with that confusion for weeks.”

“How did you stand it?”

*1 died and came back. That tends to put things in perspective.” I stood, moving to the window. “Damien, I’m not interested in reconciliation. That ship has sailed. But we still need to figure out what happens with the pack.”

“You want me to step down as Alpha.

It wasn’t a question.

“I want what’s best for Crescent Moon. And right now, I don’t think that’s your leading.” I turned to face him. “You’re too compromised. Too connected to the old Council, to the corruption, to the hierarchy that needs to change.”

“And you’re not compromised? You’re Selene’s Daughter. The Council will never fully accept you.”

“Good. I don’t want their acceptance. I want their submission.” Silver light flickered around my hands. “In eight days, my power will fully manifest. After that, I won’t need Council approval for anything.”

Damien looked at me with something like fear. “You’ve really changed.”

“I died. Change is the least of it.” I moved back to my desk. “I’m giving you a choice, Damien. Step down willingly, and help me transition the pack to new leadership. Fight me, and I’ll challenge you publicly. Either way, things are changing. The only question is whether you’re part of the solution or part of the problem.”

He was quiet for a long moment. “Can I have time to think about it?”

“You have until my birthday. November twenty eighth. After that, I’m moving forward with or without your cooperation.”

He nodded and left without another word.

I sat alone in my office, staring at the calendar on my desk.

Eight days until my birthday.

Eight days until my power peaked.

Eight days until everything changed forever.

I was ready.
