THE LUNA WHO CONQUERED DEATH
Chapter 22: Building New Poundations
The next week passed in a blur of activity.

I met with Omega families to understand their needs. Organized safety inspections at every pack–owned business. Set up committees where all ranks had an equal voice. Started dismantling the hierarchy piece by piece.
The traditionalists hated it. The younger wolves loved it. The pack was split into clear factions, and I was the fault line.
Marcus became my shadow, handling logistics while I focused on larger restructuring. Lucas trained pack warriors in new protocols that didn’t favor rank over skill. Katherine and Elena stayed, consulting on power management and political strategy.
And Adrian… Adrian was there. Not hovering, not pushing, just present. A steady force when everything else felt chaotic.
Five days before my birthday, I found him on the Pack House balcony at sunset.
“Shouldn’t you be back in Seattle?” I asked, joining him at the railing.
“Probably. My company is running itself for now.” He glanced at me. “I wanted to make sure you survived until your birthday.”
“Worried I won’t?”
“Worried the traditionalists will try something stupid?” His voice was serious. “You’ve made powerful
enemies, Sera. Council members who lost face, Alphas who fear change, wolves who benefit from the
current hierarchy.”
“Let them try.” I felt power humming beneath my skin, stronger every day. “I’m not the saine Luna who could be killed easily.”
“No. You’re not.” He turned to face me fully. “But you’re also exhausted. You’ve barely slept in a week. You’re running on power and determination, and that’s not sustainable.”
“I’ll rest after my birthday.”
“Will you?” His ice–blue eyes saw too much. “Or will you throw yourself into the next crisis, and the next,
until you burn out completely?”
I opened my mouth to argue, then stopped. He was right. I’d been moving at unsustainable speed, afraid that if I stopped, everything would fall apart.
“I don’t know how to stop,” I admitted. “Every time I slow down, I remember what’s coming. The power

manifestation, the pack restructuring, Damien’s decision…” I shook my head. “It’s easier to keep moving.”
“Sera,” Adrian moved closer. “You’ve died once. You’ve broken an artificial bond. You’ve challenged the
Council and won. You don’t have to prove anything else.”
“Don’t I?” I looked out over the pack territory. “They’re all watching, waiting to see if I’m really strong enough to lead. If I show weakness…”
“Then you show them you’re human. Or wolf. Whatever.” He smiled slightly. “The Moon Goddess chose you not because you’re perfect, but because you’re real. You survived hell and came back kinder than when you left. That’s strength, Sera.”
His words settled over me like a blanket. When was the last time someone told me it was okay not to be perfect?
“Thank you,” I said quietly.
“For what?”
“For seeing me. Not Luna Sera, not Selene’s Daughter, just… me.”
“That’s the only version I’m interested in.” He reached out, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear. The touch sent electricity through me. “The woman who showed mercy to her enemy. Who stands up for the powerless? Who’s terrified but does it anyway.”
We stood close, the air between us charged with possibility. The mate bond the Moon Goddess had mentioned wasn’t there yet, but something was building. Something real and unchosen and absolutely terrifying.
“Adrian,” I started.
“I know. Not yet.” He stepped back, giving me space. “But soon. When you’re ready.”
“And if I’m never ready? If I’m too broken from what Damien did?”
“Then I’ll wait. Or I’ll walk away. Whatever you need.” His expression was open, honest. “But Sera? I don’t think you’re broken. I think you’re healing. And that’s different.”

Three days before my birthday, Damien made his decision.
He called a pack meeting at sunset, and every wolf in attendance. The main hall was packed, tension thick
enough to choke on.
I stood near the front with Marcus and Lucas, Katherine and Elena flanking me like guards.
Damien stood on the raised platform where Alphas traditionally addressed the pack. He looked better than he had days ago, cleaned up and composed, but there was something defeated in his posture.
