Episode 23
THE LUNA WHO CONQUERED DEATH
Chapter 23: Awakening
I woke at dawn on my twenty–fifth birthday to silver light flooding my room.
It poured from my skin, my eyes, my hair, illuminating everything with ethereal radiance. Power surged through me in waves, each one stronger than the last, rebuilding me from the inside out.
It should have hurt. Katherine had warned me the full manifestation would be agonizing.
Instead, it felt like coming home.
My wolf rose to the surface, no longer separate but integrated. We were one now, perfectly balanced, moving together as we’d always meant to.
I stood, and the silver light intensified. Through the window, I could see wolves gathering outside, drawn
by the power radiating from the Pack House.
A knock at my door. Katherine’s voice. “Sera? Can I come in?”
“Yes.”
She entered and stopped, her eyes widening. “By the Goddess. You’re magnificent.”
I turned to face her, and I knew what she was seeing. My eyes had turned completely silver. My dark hair now had streaks of white silver running through it. The mate mark from Damien was gone, replaced by a crescent moon symbol that glowed faintly on my neck.
“Is this normal?”
“For a seventh–generation daughter? Yes.” Katherine moved closer, studying me with professional interest.
“How do you feel?”
“Powerful. Clear. Like I’ve been living underwater my whole life and can finally breathe.
27 flexed my hands,
watching silver light dance across my fingers. “I can feel every wolf in this pack. Their emotions, their locations, their bond to the territory.”
“That’s the Alpha sense manifesting. You’re connected to them now, whether you have the official position or not,” Katherine smiled. “The trials are going to be interesting.”
“When do they start?”
“Noon. The Council insisted on traditional trial formats.” She handed me a folder. “Four challenges. Combat, strategy, endurance, and leadership. You’ll face each of your challengers in sequence.”
“Jackson Carver first?”
“Actually, Vivian requested to go first.” Katherine’s expression was neutral. “She says she wants to prove

herself before the others.”
Claim
“Fine by me,” I opened the folder, scanning the trial details. “Combat is straightforward. What’s the strategy challenge?”
“Pack scenario. You’re given a crisis and have to navigate it successfully. Council judges your decisions.”
“Of course they do.” I closed the folder. And if I win all four challenges?”
“Then you’re Alpha. The Council has to accept it, especially after the Moon Goddess’s public blessing.” Katherine moved to the window. “But Sera, you need to be careful. Robert Thorne is Aldric’s brother. He’s going to try to hurt you, maybe even kill you if he can.”
“Let him try.” I felt power coiling in my muscles, eager to be unleashed. “I’ve already died once. I’m not afraid of him.”
“That confidence is good. But don’t let it make you reckless.” She turned back to me. “You’ve come too far
to lose now.”
By noon, the entire pack had gathered on the ceremonial grounds.
The trials would take place in the central arena, a large circular space with tiered seating for observers.
The Council sat in places of honor, Brennan and the remaining members watching with varying degrees of
approval and disapproval.
Damien sat among them, no longer Alpha but still a pack member. His eyes found mine across the arena,
and I saw regret there. Too little, too late.
Adrian stood in the front row of observers, Katherine and Elena beside him. Marcus and Lucas flanked the
arena entrance, ready to intervene if anything went wrong.
I walked into the center of the arena, and the crowd erupted.
Some cheered. Some booed. The pack was divided, and today would determine which side prevailed.
“Challengers, enter!” Council Member Brennan announced.
Vivian entered first, wearing combat gear, her blonde hair pulled back in a tight braid. She looked nervous
but determined.
Jackson Carver came next, massive and confident, sneering at the omega families in the crowd.
Robert Thorne entered last, and I felt power radiating from him. Council training, Katherine had said. He’d
been preparing for this.
“The trials will proceed in traditional order,” Brennan continued. “Combat, strategy, endurance, leadership. Luna Sera, as the recommended candidate, you will face each challenger individually. First challenger:
Vivian Cross.”
Vivian and I moved to opposite sides of the arena. The crowd fell silent.

“This is a fight for submission,” Brennan explained. “First, to yield or be rendered unable to continue losing. Killing blows are forbidden. Begin!”
Vivian came at me fast, and I could seè she’d been training. Her moves were clean, efficient, nothing like the pampered pack princess I’d known.
But I’d been training too. And I’d died and come back with power she couldn’t have imagined.
I dodged her first strike, then her second. On the third, I caught her wrist and twisted, sending her stumbling.
“You’ve improved,” I said.
“So have you.” She recovered, circling me. “I meant what I said. I want to prove myself. This isn’t about stea ing your position.”
“Then prove it.”
We clashed again, trading blows. She was good, I’d give her that. But I was better. I could feel her movements before she made them. My wolf and I are moving in perfect synchronization.
After five minutes, I had her pinned.
“Yield,” I said quietly. “You fought well. That’s proof enough.”
For a moment, I thought she’d refuse. Then she nodded. “I yield.”
The crowd erupted as I helped her up. Vivian looked at me with something like gratitude.
“Thank you. For mercy. Again.”
“Thank yourself. You earned it by fighting honorably.” I turned to the Council. “First challenge complete.”
Jackson Carver entered the arena next, and his sneer was vicious.
“Let’s see if you can handle a real fight, little Luna.”
I smiled, and it wasn’t kind. “Let’s.”

He was stronger than Vivian, more experienced, more brutal. He didn’t hold back, didn’t show mercy, came at me with the clear intention of hurting.
Perfect.
I let him think he was winning for the first few minutes, dodging but not countering, letting him grow
confident.
Then I stopped holding back.
Silver light flared around me as I moved. I was faster than him, stronger, my wolf and I were working in perfect harmony. Every strike he threw, I saw coming. Every opening he created, I exploited.
Three minutes in, I had him on the ground, my hand around his throat.

“This is for every omega you abused,” I said quietly. “Every worker you threatened. Every wolf you thought was beneath you.”
He clawed at my hand, unable to speak.
“Yield, or I keep squeezing.”
“I yield!” he choked out.
I released him and stood. He lay gasping, humiliation written across his face.
“Second challenge complete,” I announced.
