Episode 24
THE LUNA WHO CONQUERED DEATH
Chapter 24: Alpha Rising
The strategic challenge came next.
Council Member Torres presented the scenario a neighboring pack had been decimated by a mysterious illness. Do you offer aid and risk infection, or close borders and protect your own?
“I offer aid,” I said immediately. “But I send healers in protective gear, quarantine returning wolves for observation, and coordinate with other packs to pool resources. One pack’s crisis is everyone’s responsibility.”
Vivian had chosen to close borders. Protect the pack at all costs.
Jackson had suggested using the crisis to claim the weakened pack’s territory.
Robert Thorne hadn’t gone yet.
“Candidate Thorne, your response?” Torres asked.
Robert smiled coldly. “I’ll investigate whether the illness was natural or introduced. If introduced, I’d find
who did it and eliminate them as a threat. Can’t have neighboring packs using biological warfare.”
The crowd murmured. It was a paranoid response, but strategically sound if you believed in threats
everywhere.
Torres consulted with the other Council members. /Luna Sera’s response demonstrates compassion and
coordination. Candidate Thorne shows strategic thinking. Both acceptable. Challenge tied.”
The endurance challenge was brutal. We had to maintain wolf form for two hours while running an
obstacle course repeatedly. No breaks, no rest, just constant motion.
Robert Thorne was strong. He kept pace with me for the first hour, his Council training evident.
But I had something he didn’t. I’d died. I’d survived the impossible. My body had been rebuilt by the Moon
Goddess herself.
By hour two, he was flagging. I was still strong.
When time was called, I’d completed fifteen circuits. He’d completed twelve.
“Third challenge: Luna Sera,” Brennan announced.
Three down. One to go.
The leadership challenge was simple in concept, complex in execution.
Each candidate had to address the pack and explain their vision for the future.
Robert Thorne went first.
Claim
“offer you stability. A return to traditional values, traditional hierarchy, the ways that have served us for centuries. Yes, there were some excesses under Aldric Thorne, but that doesn’t mean the entire system is broken.” He looked directly at me. “Change for change’s sake is dangerous. I offer proven leadership.”
Polite applause from the traditionalists.
My turn.
I stepped forward, letting silver light flicker around me, making sure every wolf could see what I’d become.
“Robert Thorne is right about one thing. Change is dangerous.” I looked out at the assembled pack. “But so is stagnation. So is allowing abuse because ‘that’s how it’s always been.’ So is sacrificing our pack members‘ safety for the comfort of those in power.”
I moved through the arena as I spoke, making eye contact with wolves of all ranks.
“I don’t offer you traditions. I offer you justice. I don’t offer you stability. I offer you growth. I don’t offer you
A
a Luna who’ll smile and stay silent. I offer you an Alpha who’ll fight for every single one of you, regardless
of rank.”
I stopped in front of the omega section, where Sophie Chen stood with her family.
“You asked me once why I was helping you. I said that because you deserved help. That’s still true. Every
wolf here deserves to be safe, valued, and heard. And as your Alpha, I’ll make sure that’s not just a
promise. It’s reality.”
The omega section erupted in cheers. The younger wolves joined in. Even some traditionalists were
nodding.
“I offer you a choice,” I concluded. “The past, comfortable and familiar and broken. Or the future, uncertain, and challenging, and better. Choose wisely.”
The applause was deafening.
Council Member Brennan stood. “The votes will now be counted.”
But before he could continue, Robert Thorne moved.
Fast. Impossibly fast. Council trained.
He had a silver blade in his hand, and he was coming straight for me.
“Death to the Goddess’s Sex worker!”
Time slowed.
I could have dodged. Could have let my guard intervene.
Instead, I caught his wrist mid–strike, silver light blazing around me.
“I’ve already died once,” I said calmly. “Did you really think a knife would work?”

Htwisted, and the blade clattered to the ground.
The entire arena held its breath.
Clam
“You’re Aldric’s brother” I continued, still holding his wrist in an iron grip. “Which means you probably share his beliefs about Selene’s daughters. About power. About control.”
“You’re an abomination!” he spat. “A corruption of natural order!”
“No. I’m evolution.” I released him with a push that sent him sprawling. “And you’re obsolete.”
Marcus and Lucas moved in, restraining Robert Thorne while he shouted threats.
I turned to the Council. “I believe that disqualifies Candidate Thorne. Attacking another candidate violates trial law.”
Brennan looked pale but nodded. “Agreed. Robert Thorne is disqualified.” He turned to the pack. “Given the circumstances, and given Luna Sera’s performance across all challenges, I call for an immediate vote. All in favor of Luna Sera as Alpha?”
Hands rose throughout the crowd. Omega families. Young wolves. Even some traditionalists were swayed by my words or impressed by how I’d handled the attack.
“All opposed?”
Fewer hands. Significantly fewer.
“By majority vote, I declare Luna Sera Nightshade as Alpha of Crescent Moon Pack.” Brennan’s voice
carried resignation. “May the Moon Goddess guide your leadership.”
The crowd erupted. Cheers and celebrations, wolves howling their approval to the sky.
I stood in the center of it all, silver light still glowing around me, and felt the pack bond solidify. Every wolf
in Crescent Moon was now connected to me, their Alpha, their leader, their protector.
Adrian caught my eye from the observers‘ section and smiled, fierce and proud.
Katherine and Elena were beaming.
Marcus looked like he might cry.
Even Damien was clapping, slowly, respectfully acknowledging what I’d become.
I raised my hands, and the crowd quieted.

“As your Alpha, my first act is this: the omega designation is abolished. From this day forward, all wolves in Crescent Moon Pack are equal in worth. Rank will be earned through merit, not birth. And anyone who
abuses another pack member, regardless of their rank, will answer to me.”
More cheers. Sophie Chen was openly crying.
“My second act: we established a Council of Voices. Representatives from all former ranks, chosen by their peers, will advise the Alpha on pack decisions. No more rules by the few. We lead together.”
Claum
The traditionalists looked uncomfortable, but no one objected. Not after what they’d just witnessed.
“And my third act…” I looked at Adrian. “I’m opening our territory to allies. Katherine Wolfe, Elena Vasquez, and any other Selene’s Daughters who need sanctuary will find it here. We protect our own. Always.”
The celebration continued for hours. Wolves shifted and ran together, howling their joy at the sky. The pack bond thrummed with unity stronger than I’d ever felt.
I’d died a Luna.
I’d been reborn as something more.
And now, finally, I was exactly who I was meant to be.
Alpha. Daughter. Survivor.
