“Complete.” He pulled me against him. “Like I’ve been waiting my whole life for this moment and didn’t

know it.”

“Me too.” I rested my head against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. “Though this is going to complicate pack politics. Alpha with a mate who’s not a pack member, who lives in Seattle, who’s a hybrid…”

“Let them complain. I can handle politics.” He kissed the top of my head. “Besides, my mother is already planning to move her base of operations here. Apparently, Crescent Moon is about to become the center of Selene’s Daughter activity.”

“Of course it is.” I laughed. “Because my life wasn’t complicated enough.”

“You love it.”

“I really do.”

We stood together in comfortable silence, the mate bond humming between us, and I felt something I hadn’t felt in months.

Peace.

That evening, I called the first meeting of the Council of Voices.

Twelve wolves, chosen by their former rank groups to represent their interests. Sophie Chen’s mother, Susan, represented the former omegas. Marcus represented the betas. Lucas represented the warriors.

Even a traditionalist elder was included.

They gathered in what used to be Alpha’s private conference room, now open to all.

“Thank you for coming,” I began. “This is new for all of us. I’m not here to dictate. I’m here to listen, to

learn, to lead with your input.”

“That’s very democratic, Alpha,” the elder, Patricia Lowell, said carefully. “But wolves need strong leadership. Clear direction. Too many voices can lead to chaos.”

“Or too many voices can lead to wisdom.” I looked around the table. “I’m not asking you to agree with everything I say. I’m asking you to tell me when I’m wrong, when I’m missing something, when there’s a

better way.”

“And if we can’t reach consensus?” Susan asked.

“Then I make the final call. I’m still Alpha. But I want that call to be informed by all of you, not just the wolves who’ve traditionally had power.” I pulled out my notes. “First issue: housing. Several omega families are living in substandard conditions. I want proposals for addressing this.”

The meeting lasted three hours. It was messy, occasionally heated, but ultimately productive. By the end, we had action plans for housing improvements, job training programs, and a review of all pack–owned

businesses for safety violations.

It wasn’t perfect. But it was a start.

Later that night, Adrian found me on the balcony again.

“You’re going to wear out this spot,” he teased, wrapping his arms around me from behind.

“It’s where I came to think.” I leaned back against him, feeling–the mate bond settle comfortably between us. “Everything’s changing so fast. Sometimes Need to just… breathe.”

“Having second thoughts about being Alpha?”

“About being Alpha? No. About whether I can actually do this? Every day.” I turned in his arms. “What if I fail them? What if I’m not strong enough, or smart enough, or…”

“Sera.” He tilted my chin up. “You died and came back. You broke an artificial bond. You challenged the Council and won. You became Alpha on your twenty–fifth birthday, exactly when they tried to kill you.” He smiled. “If that’s not strong enough, I don’t know what is.”

“When you put it that way…”

“There is no other way to put it. You’re extraordinary. And this pack knows it.” He kissed my forehead. “Now come to bed. Tomorrow, you can continue saving the world. Tonight, you rest.”

“Is that an order?”

“From your mate? Yes.”

“Good.” I let him lead me inside. “I like it when you’re bossy.”

“I’ll remember that.”

We fell asleep tangled together, the mate bond wrapping around us like a blanket, and for the first time since I woke up six months in the past, I didn’t dream of drowning.

I dreamed of flying instead.
