Chapter 25: New Beginnings

The celebration lasted until dawn.

By the time the pack finally dispersed, exhausted and happy, I was running on pure adrenaline. Marcus practically carried me back to my quarters.

“You need to sleep,” he said firmly. “You’ve been awake for twenty–four hours, fought three challengers, became Alpha, and restructured pack hierarchy. Rest now, revolutionize tomorrow.”

“But there’s so much to do. The Council of Voices needs to be organized, the omega families need resources, the traditional families need reassurance…”

“All of which can wait six hours.” He steered me toward my bed. “You’re no good to anyone if you collapse from exhaustion.”

He was right, of course. I changed quickly and fell into bed, asleep before my head hit the pillow.

I dreamed of silver light and possibilities.

I woke to find Adrian sitting in the chair by my window, reading.

“How long have you been there?” I asked groggily.

“About an hour, Marcus let me in. Said someone should make sure you actually rested instead of sneaking out to handle pack business.” He set down his book. “How do you feel?”

“Like I got hit by a truck. A victorious truck, but still.” 1 sat up slowly, my muscles protesting. “What time is it?”

“Three in the afternoon. You slept about eight hours.” He moved to sit on the edge of my bed. “The pack is settling well. No major incidents. A few traditionalists grumble, but nothing serious.”

“And Damien?”

“Left this morning. Said he was going to visit his family in the northern territories, give you space to establish your leadership.” Adrian’s expression was neutral. “Marcus thinks he won’t come back.”

“Good.” I meant it. Damien’s presence would have complicated everything. “Did Katherine and Elena leave

too?”

“Katherine is staying for a few weeks to help you navigate Council politics. Elena left to gather other Daughters. She thinks your success will inspire them to come out of hiding.” He smiled. “You’ve started something, Sera. Something bigger than just this pack.”

“I just wanted to survive.”

“And in surviving, you showed everyone else how to live.” He reached out, tucking a silver streak of hair behind my ear. “The Moon Goddess chose well.”

The air between us felt sharged. We wère alone. I was Alpha now, the mate bond the Goddess mentioned was there, hovering just beneath the surface, waiting for permission to form.

“Adrian,” I started.

“I know. You’re not ready yet.” He stood, giving me space. “And that’s okay. I’m not going anywhere.”

“Actually…” I caught his hand. “I think I might be ready. Or at least, ready to try.”

His eyes widened slightly. “Sera, you don’t have to rush this. You just became Alpha. You have a pack to settle, restructuring to manage…”

“I’ve spent five years in a fake relationship. Five years feeling emotions that weren’t mine, connected to someone who planned to kill me.” I stood, still holding his hand. “I don’t want to waste any more time being afraid of something real.”

“Are you sure?”

“No. But I’ve learned that the important things are worth being scared about.” I moved closer. “The Moon Goddess said you’re my true mate. That the bond will form naturally when I’m ready. I want to find out if she’s right.”

Adrian cupped my face gently. “If we do this, if we let the bond form, it’s permanent. True mate bonds can’t be broken.”

“Good. I’m done with things that break.” I leaned into his touch. “Kiss me, Adrian Wolfe.”

He did.

The moment our lips met, power exploded between us. Not the artificial warmth of the manufactured bond, but something wild and true and absolutely right. Silver and ice blue light swirled around us as the mate bond snapped into place, connecting us soul to soul.

I gasped as I felt him. His emotions, his strength, his absolute devotion. And he could feel me too, all my jagged edges and hard–won power and fierce determination to never be a victim again.

When we finally broke apart, we were both breathing hard.

“Well,” Adrian said, his voice rough. “The Moon Goddess was right.”

“She usually is.” I looked at my neck in the mirror. The crescent moon mark now had a wolf silhouette intertwined with it. His mark. Our bond. “How do you feel?”
