Chapter 33: Gathering Storm.

The next morning, Elena returned from the northern territories with news that confirmed our worst fears.

“They’re using the wolves for experimentation, she reported, her face grim. “We found one of their facilities. Underground lab, medical equipment, cells with silver–reinforced bars.”

We were in the war room, me, Adrian, Katherine, Marcus, Elena, and Torres under guard. Maps and files covered every surface.

“Did you find any survivors?” I asked.

“Three. Two were already dead when we arrived. The third…” Elena’s jaw tightened. “They’d been testing various silver compounds on her. Trying to find concentrations that would prevent shifting permanently.”

Katherine stood abruptly. “Where is she now?”

“Medical wing. Dr. Moira is treating her, but the silver poisoning is extensive.” Elena pulled up photos on her tablet. “The facility had detailed records. They’re not just killing us. They’re studying us. Learning our weaknesses.”

Torres leaned forward. “Let me see those records.”

Elena hesitated, looking at me. I nodded.

He scrolled through the files, his expression darkening. “This is Cell Seven’s work. Pacific Northwest operations. They specialize in biological research.” He pulled up a map. “If they’re operating here, their main base is probably within fifty miles. They need proximity to testing sites.”

“Can you narrow it down?” Adrian asked.

“Maybe. Give me access to satellite imagery and property records. I can look for the profile, remote

location, recent renovations, unusual power consumption.”

“Marcus, get him what he needs.” I turned to Elena. “The survivor. Is she coherent?”

“Barely. The trauma…” Elena shook her head. “But she did say something. Kept repeating ‘three weeks.’ We

think that’s when they’re planning something bigger.”

Three weeks. The same timeframe Torres had mentioned for a major operation.

“They’re escalating,” I said. “The testing phase is ending. Whatever they’re planning, it’s coming soon.”

“We need to find that base,” Katherine said. “Shut down their operations before.”

The door burst open. Jade stood there, breathing hard, her eyes wild.

“Alpha, something’s wrong. Maya had a vision. A bad one.”

Episode 33-4

Claim

Maya was our prophet, fourth generation Daughter whose visions had saved us multiple times. If she’d seen something bad enough to send Jade running…

“Where is she?”

“School. She collapsed during meditation practice.”

I was moving before Jade finished speaking, pregnancy be damned. Adrian caught up to me in the hallway.

“You should slow down.”

“Not happening.”

We found Maya in the meditation room, surrounded by concerned students. Katherine had beaten us there somehow, already checking the girl’s vitals.

Maya’s eyes were open but unfocused, her voice coming in dissected fragments.

“Fire… silver… screaming… so much screaming… three weeks… no, two weeks… soon, so soon… they come with fire and silver and hate…”

“Maya.” I knelt beside her carefully. “Can you hear me?”

Her eyes focused suddenly, fixing on mine with terrible clarity.

“They’re coming, Alpha. Not one cell. All of them. Every Hunter the Covenant can muster.” Tears streamed down her face. “They’re coming to burn Crescent Moon to the ground. To kill every Daughter, every

reformed wolf, everyone who stands with you.”

“When?”

“Full moon. Two weeks.” Her hand gripped mine with desperate strength. “I saw fire. So much fire. The

school is burning. Students run. Silver everywhere. And you…” She choked with a sob. “You have to

choose. Save the pack or save your daughter. The vision splits there. I can’t see which path you take.”

Cold dread settled in my stomach. “Both paths end badly?”

“One path, the pack survives, but you don’t. The other…” She squeezed her eyes shut. “The other, you live

but watch everything burn. There’s no good ending, Alpha. Not in any vision I can see.”

The room was silent except for Maya’s ragged breathing. Every student was staring at me, waiting to see

how their Alpha would react to a prophecy of doom.

I stood slowly, hand on my belly where my daughter kicked, oblivious to the danger,

“Then we make a third path,” I said calmly. “Maya’s visions show possible futures, not certainties. We’ve

changed prophecies before.”

“Not like this.” Katherine’s voice was heavy. “Alpha Sera, if the entire Covenant is mobilizing…”

“Then we mobilize too.” I looked around the room. “Every student, return to your quarters. Pack essentials.
