Episode 34-2
“Riley, shield on the team. We’re moving.” I headed for the door. “Maya, find me the shortest path to whoever’s running this operation.”
“Southwest corner office. Three Hunters with him, two more coming as backup. Alpha, the vision splits here. If you confront him../”
“I need to confront him. This ends tonight.”
We burst into the hallway chaos. Wolves I didn’t recognize were fighting desperately against Hunters in tactical gear. Silver bullets flew. Blood painted the white walls

“We help them,” I said, making the decision instantly. “All of us get out alive, or none of us do.”
Katherine didn’t argue, just shifted mid–stride into her wolf form and tore into the nearest Hunter. Elena followed. Jade focused her gifts on human guards, flooding them with terror that sent them fleeing. Riley’s shields protected our group from incoming fire. Adrian fought in his hybrid form, human shape, but with supernatural strength and speed that let him disarm Hunters without killing them.
I moved through the battle toward the southwest office, power crackling around me. These hunters had studied us, tortured us, tried to harvest us for profit.
Time to show them why the Council had feared Selene’s Daughters.
The office door was reinforced steel. I placed my hand on it, let power flow through me, and the lock shattered. The door flew open.
Inside, a man in his sixties sat behind a mahogany desk, three armed Hunters flanking him. He looked up calmly, as if supernatural beings breaking into his office were merely a scheduling inconvenience.
“Alpha Sera Nightshade. I was wondering when you’d visit us.” His voice was cultured, British. “I’m Dr. Malcolm Pierce. CEO of Apex Industries, Director of the Covenant of Ash.”
“You’re the one ordering the kidnappings. The experiments.” I moved into the room, Adrian beside me. “The one planning to mass–produce supernatural abilities.”
“Planning? My dear, we’re already in clinical trials.” He smiled, and it was the smile of someone who believed himself untouchable. “The first batch of enhanced soldiers is performing beautifully. Werewolf healing factor, vampire strength, witch magical resistance. All the advantages, none of the weaknesses.”
“You can’t create supernatural abilities in humans. We’re born with them.”
“Wrong. We can replicate them. All it takes is the right genetic material, proper processing, and subjects willing to transform.” He stood, walking to a window overlooking Seattle. “In five years, supernatural beings will be obsolete. Humanity will have evolved beyond you.”
“By killing us and stealing our gifts.”

“By harvesting resources that would otherwise go to waste,” he turned back to me. “You’re dying breeds, Alpha Sera. Hiding from humanity, living in the shadows. We’re offering evolution. A merger of human and supernatural that will create something greater than either.”
“You’re offering genocide dressed up as progress.”
“Semantics.” He waved a hand dismissively. “The strong always survive. Right now, humanity is weak. But with your gifts…” His eyes gleamed. “We’ll be gods.”
The Hunters flanking him raised their weapons. Silver–loaded rifles pointed at us.
“You’re not leaving this building alive,” Pierce said calmly. “I’ve already triggered security protocols. This entire floor will be sealed in three minutes. The building will be purged with silver gas. Everyone inside

dies, but the research is backed up.

“That’s your plan? Kill everyone, including your own people?”
“Acceptable casualties. The Hunters here are true believers. They’ll gladly die for the cause.” He smiled. “Will your people?”
I felt through the pack bonds. Katherine and Elena were still fighting in the hallway. The rescued wolves were holding their own but exhausted. Jade and Riley were protecting Maya, who was having visions so intense she’d collapsed.
Three minutes until gas releases.
“Riley!” I called through my earpiece. “Can you shield against gas?”
“Not for long. Maybe sixty seconds if I push.”
Not enough time to evacuate everyone.
Maya’s prophecy suddenly made terrible sense. Save the pack by getting them out, but die in the process, Or save myself and let them die.
No good choices.
Adrian’s hand found mine, the mate bond flooding with determination, love, and absolute faith.
“Third path,” he reminded me quietly.
I looked at Pierce, at his certainty, his smug belief that he’d won.
