“She’ll need to stay in the NICU,” Dr. Moira wamed. “Her lungs aren’t fully developed, and her immune system is weak. This is still very serious, Alpha.”
“But she’s alive. That’s what matters.” I looked up at Katherine. “Any word from Seattle?”
Her expression said it all.
“Tell me.”
“Diana’s warriors reached Apex Industries twenty minutes ago. The building is in full lockdown. Hunters are everywhere. They’re trying to breach, but…” She paused. “There’s been no word from Adrian since you left.”
The mate bond pulsed weakly. He was alive but fading.
“I need to go to him.”
“You just had major surgery. You can’t”
“Katherine, my mate is dying.” I looked at my daughter, at Luna’s silver eyes staring up at me with an awareness no newborn should have. “And I can’t let my daughter grow up without her father.”
“You’ll die if you try to portray your condition.”
“Maybe. But I’ll definitely die sitting here knowing I could have saved him and didn’t.” I carefully handed Luna to Elena. “Keep her safe. Whatever happens, protect her.”
“Sera”
I was already pulling power, ignoring the agony from my incision, from my exhausted body. Silver light
spiraled around me.
Dr. Moira tried to stop me. “Alpha, your body can’t handle this kind of strain.”
“My body has handled worse.” The portal opened, showing Apex industries‘ fortieth floor. Chaos. Fighting.
Bodies.
And Adrian, pinned beneath rubble, blood pooling around him.
I stepped through.
The transition nearly killed me.
I materialized in Seattle and immediately collapsed, the portal taking everything I had left. Blood soaked through my medical gown. My incision had torn open from the strain.
But Adrian was ten feet away, trapped under a collapsed ceiling beam.
“Sera?” His voice was weak. “What… you shouldn’t be here.”
spise su
“Shut up.” I crawled toward him, using what little strength remained. “I’m getting you out.”
“The baby”
“Is alive. Perfect. Named Luna.” I reached–the beam, tried to lift it. It didn’t budge. “Now let me save her father.”
“Sera, you’re bleeding. You need”
“I need you alive.” I looked around desperately. The office was destroyed. Pierce’s desk shattered. Bullet holes everywhere.
And Pierce himself, dead on the floor. Adrian had killed him, but the building had come down in the process.
“Diana’s warriors are trying to breach from below,” Adrian said. “But the Hunters have the stairwells locked down. No one’s getting up here on time.”
“Then I’ll do it myself.” I placed both hands on the beam and pulled.
Power I didn’t have flowed through me. Daughter gifts, alpha strength, sheer desperate determination.
The beam shifted.
“Sera, stop. You’re killing yourself.”
“And you’ll die if I don’t.” I pulled harder, screaming with effort.
The beam moved another inch.
Adrian’s hand found mine. “Together.”
Through a mate bond, he lent me strength. Hybrid power combines with Daughter magic. The beam lifted.
Adrian pulled himself free, gasping. His leg was mangled, ribs clearly broken, but he was alive.
“Now we get out of here,” he said, trying to stand and failing.
“Portal’s closed. Used everything I had getting here.” Black spots danced in my vision. “And I’m fairly certain I’m dying.”
“Not acceptable.” He pulled me against him despite his injuries. “We survive together. That’s the deal.”
“The deal might be broken.” I could barely keep my eyes open. “Adrian, if I don’t make it.”
“You’re making it.”
Listen to me.” I grabbed his face, forcing him to meet my eyes. “Luna needs you. She’s going to be extraordinary and terrifying, and she needs a father who can handle both.”
“She’s going to have both parents.”
“Tell her I love her. Tell her every day. And tell her…” My vision was fading. “Tell her her mother conquered death twice. Once for herself. Once for her pack. But the third time…”
< Episode 16 –
“No third time. You’re staying alive.” Adrian pulled out his phone, miraculously intact. “Diana, I don’t care how many hunters are in your way. Get up here NOW.”
I barely heard the response. The world was going gray.
Through the mate bond, I felt Luna. Tiny, perfect, alive. Fighting to breathe in the NICU.
My daughter, my legacy, the future I’ll bleed for.
