Chapter 249

As they move to comply, Vega recognizes our intent. Stop them! She orders Krell and the remaining guards. They attempt to reverse the extraction!

Krell lurches toward Selene, but Dominic intercepts him, their swords meeting in a shower of sparks. Kieran and the other healers form a protective barrier around Elara, whose powers manifest visibly nowa violet aura that repels approaching guards.

I step forward to the southern point of the circle, directly facing Alexander. The amulet pulses in rhythm with my heartbeat, with our mate bond, with the very essence of what connects us. I place my hand over the spiral birthmark on my shoulder, completing the circuit of power.

With amulet, key, and birthmark aligned,I begin, words rising instinctively from some ancient knowledge awakened within me, we call to the divided essence, to Alpha strength and healing grace, to physical form that houses both.

The silver lines of Vega’s extraction ritual begin to waver, disrupted by the counterenergy we generate. Alexander’s partially extracted essence hovers uncertainly between his body and the artifact Vega prepared.

By the true prophecy’s decree,I continue, voice strengthening, what was torn asunder shall be made whole. What was

divided shall be unified. What was broken shall be healed.

Power builds around us, silver light from the amulet and key merging with violet energy from Elara and the birthmark’s

resonance. It forms a countering pattern to Vega’s ritual, creating a new matrix for Alexander’s essence to follow.

No!Vega shrieks, abandoning all pretense of ceremonial dignity. Centuries of preparation will not be undone by children playing with powers they don’t understand!

She makes a slashing gesture with one hand while continuing the extraction ritual with the other. Something dark and viscous seems to flow from her fingertips, cutting across our counterritual’s energy pattern.

The contingency spell,Selene warns. She’s triggering it early!

I have no time to question what this means, focused entirely on maintaining the counterritual’s integrity. The competing energiesVega’s extraction, our restoration, and now this new contingency spellcreate a chaotic storm of power within the

ritual circle.

Alexander’s physical form convulses against its restraints as his Alpha essence is pulled in multiple directions simultaneously. Through our bond, I feel his agony, his confusion, his desperate struggle to remain cohesive against forces that would tear him

apart completely.

And then, cutting through chaos and pain alike, I sense something newa stirring, a gathering, a reassembly of scattered particles that had seemed lost forever. Alexander’s healing essence, responding to our counterritual, drawn by the mate bond

and the artifactspower.

It appears first as tiny motes of violet light, similar to Elara’s energy but softer, gentler in its quality. These motes swirl at the edges of the chamber, gradually coalescing into a luminous cloud that drifts toward the ritual circle. Unlike the reddishgold of his Alpha essence, this manifestation glows with gentle violet radiance characteristic of healing power.

The healing essence returns!Elara calls out, her own powers flaring brighter in response.

Vega sees it too, her expression contorting with fury and desperation. No! The corruption was dispelled! It cannot return!

She abandons the extraction ritual entirely, focusing all her energy on the contingency spell, which manifests as black lines

cutting across our silver pattern. Whatever this spell is designed to do, she clearly believes it more important than completing the original extraction.

The reunification, now!Selene urges. Before the contingency takes full effect!

I pour everything into the counterritual, drawing strength from the amulet, from the mate bond, from some wellspring of power I never knew I possessed. Words continue to flow through me, ancient and powerful, directing the converging energies toward harmony rather than conflict.
