The Mad Princess and the Dying Prince novel Chapter 21

A wedding to cure a dying man?

The king's heart skipped a beat. Absolutely not. He did not want the old king to live.

What if a wedding actually brought him back from the brink?

The king immediately scoffed. "Nonsense! You are the eldest daughter of the realm's Prime Minister. What use is this foolish wedding?"

The queen mother could not help but cast a glance at him.

Why was the king opposing it so vehemently?

"Get out!"

Prince Jareth suppressed his dark fury. The old king was on his deathbed, and these people were still squabbling!

"Jareth, she... she..." The old king reached out a trembling hand, pointing weakly at Seraphina Marquis. "She has a blessed fate..."

That half-sentence filled Seraphina with wild joy. The old king wanted Prince Jareth to marry her!

Seraphina knew she had to maintain her composure now. Prince Jareth was deeply devoted to his father; he would obey whatever the old king commanded.

She reverently placed her hands on the edge of the bed and bowed her head deeply.

At this moment, she desperately hoped the old king would survive!

The old king pulled Jareth's hand toward Seraphina. Though the movement was labored, everyone present understood his intent.

He wanted Prince Jareth to hold Seraphina's hand, clearly meaning to bind them together.

Prince Jareth tightly gripped his father's hand. "Save your strength. I will bring someone to the palace!"

Through the old king's increasingly cold grip and fading gaze, Jareth saw his life force draining rapidly.

The court physicians were bowed low across the hall. Not a single one dared to speak, proving they were entirely out of ideas to cure the old king.

"Father?" The king did not care who Lucia was at the moment. He too saw the sudden deathly pallor on the old king's face.

"Physicians! Hurry, save my father!"

A sudden, uncontrollable panic seized the king.

Although he had constantly wished for his father's swift death so he could rule as a true king—free from seeking the old king's counsel or enduring his reprimands—now that the moment had arrived, he felt a terrifying dread of being left entirely without a safety net.

The old king might scold him and constantly loom over him, but whenever an unsolvable crisis arose, he would always guide and help him despite the harsh words.

To the outside world, it allowed him to appear as a brilliant, capable ruler.

The court physicians frantically crowded around the bed.

Prince Jareth, radiating a frigid aura, had no choice but to step back, clenching his fists as he watched the healers attempt to save the old king.

Azure, having received his orders, had already rushed out of the palace toward Beaumont Manor.
