Lucia had slept for over half a day just to recover a fraction of her strength, and now she had drained it all again, putting herself entirely in the red.

She could feel her hands trembling.

Jareth, however, felt remarkably better.

He signaled Azure to step back, reaching out to support Lucia's hand himself. Looking down, he finally noticed his tunic had been pulled open again.

"We have met exactly twice, and both times you have stripped me of my clothes," he noted.

Lucia scoffed. "Do you think I wanted to? Are you going to help me up or not?"

Azure took two steps back and kept his head bowed on guard.

Lady Lucia truly did not mince words when speaking to the prince.

Jareth helped her to her feet, but the moment he went to release her, Lucia's legs gave out, and she nearly fell. He immediately reached out and caught her around her slender waist.

Holding her like this, he could feel the tremors wracking her body.

It was sheer exhaustion.

He pressed his lips together, realizing she must have sacrificed a tremendous amount of energy to save him.

Jareth immediately looked toward the old king on the bed.

Since he had survived, was it possible to bring the old king back as well?

"Can you bring the old king back too?"

"No."

Lucia cut him off instantly, shattering his hopes. "He is already dead."

She said it without a sliver of reverence.

That was the old king!

Azure's mouth fell slightly open. Was it because she had been raised in the countryside?

Jareth's predatory gaze darkened. He was also shocked, but for a different reason. Did this mean she had broken the covenant?

"However, he cannot be allowed to pass completely," Lucia added. "You are bound to him by the Twin-Life Covenant. It cannot be entirely severed."

Jareth was baffled. A man was dead, yet he could not pass completely?

"Help me to the bed."
