The Mad Princess and the Dying Prince novel Chapter 26

The old king was dead; how could she simply defile his remains?

Lucia Beaumont cast a sideways glance at him. "Let go. Do you want to live or not?"

"What are you doing?" Prince Jareth asked, his voice low and tight.

Lucia stared at the thick Purple Aura radiating from him. Her free hand suddenly reached out, making a grabbing motion in the air before him.

She needed to siphon a bit of his Purple Aura, or she wouldn't be able to hold on much longer.

After she performed that strange gesture, Prince Jareth watched as she pressed whatever she had seemingly caught in the air directly against her forehead.

"What exactly are you doing now?" he demanded.

Yet, right after she completed the motion, he noticed her radiant complexion return.

The deathly pallor faded, as though she had just consumed some legendary elixir of life.

Lucia let out a soft breath of relief. He truly possessed the aura of a ruler—this Purple Aura was the ultimate restorative magic for her.

"I just tethered half of the old king's remaining life force. I can anchor it to this wooden tablet to bear the weight of your Twin-Life Covenant. It will trick the gods into believing he isn't truly dead, which means you won't have to die either."

She explained this in a rare act of kindness, bought entirely by that handful of Purple Aura.

Prince Jareth visibly shuddered, his expression reflecting absolute shock.

"Such a thing is possible?"

"Anyone else would fail miserably. Your royal bloodline, his specific destiny, and my unique magic—missing even one piece would spell disaster."

Lucia lifted her chin, her words dripping with undeniable pride.

Prince Jareth had never heard of anything so absurd.

"Can you let go now?" she asked.

"If his life force is anchored to this wood, what will happen to the tablet?"

What would happen to it? Lucia pondered for a moment. "It becomes a true memorial tablet, infused with his spirit. You simply need to place it wherever your family lights candles for the dead. Who knows? Perhaps when one of his descendants bows before it, it might actually answer their prayers."

For some reason, Prince Jareth detected a hint of mockery in her final sentence.

He didn't believe a word of it.

Such miracles simply did not exist.
