It was truly bizarre. Corin had been entirely out of control, driven mad by the pain, but the moment Lucia patted his chest, his movements froze.
Before the Finch family could even process what had happened, Corin lowered his raised hand. The tension drained from his body, his rigid limbs finally relaxing against the mattress.
The family stared, wide-eyed. Silas didn't dare take a single step forward, terrified of interrupting Lucia. Matron Finch moved closer, gripping her son's arm tightly.
It seemed Lady Lucia truly possessed formidable power! If nothing else, easing their child's suffering was a miracle in itself.
Corin had been in such agony he had wished for death. He never imagined a headache could reach such terrifying extremes. But with that single pat on his chest, it felt as though a cool breeze had swept through him, washing away the suffocating darkness gripping his heart. In an instant, his body felt lighter, and the blinding pain in his head faded drastically.
His consciousness returned, and he blinked, taking in the scene. The first person he saw was Lucia.
She was a strikingly beautiful young woman, her gaze calm and crystal clear. Yet the tone she had used to tell him to behave reminded him of the gentle, exasperated way his grandmother used to coax him when he was a boy.
"Grandfather..." Corin spotted Physician Finch standing nearby and wanted to ask who this woman was. But the moment he spoke, Lucia shushed him.
"Do not speak yet."
Corin clamped his mouth shut instantly. He didn't even know why he was being so obedient.
Lucia flexed her fingers, a faint golden light weaving around her palm. She reached over Corin's head, her hands moving in a series of intricate gestures. Her movements were graceful and fluid, like a delicate dance, leaving the onlookers mesmerized. The dark tendrils of the deathly aura began to swirl around her fingertips, forming a vortex.
"Spirits of the earth, let the light rise and the shadow fade. Bind." Lucia suddenly clenched her fist, then slammed her hand down onto the cushion set with precious stones. "Trap."
