The Mad Princess and the Dying Prince novel Chapter 66

She was only worried about her son.

"Lady Lucia is trying to save Corin!" Physician Finch snapped, exasperated. "Step back, all of you! Stop getting in her way!" Seeing his daughter-in-law about to argue, he stamped his foot. "Yvette! I am Corin's grandfather. Do you truly think I would harm him?!"

He had even used her given name. Silas Finch pulled his wife back and took a deep breath. "Father, you have always loved Corin. We will listen to you."

Although Silas didn't entirely trust this young woman before him, he had to trust his father!

"Lady Lucia, please do not mind them. They have simply lost their wits from worry," Physician Finch said, afraid Lucia might walk away in anger.

Lucia didn't mind. Their son was suffering immensely; it was only natural for parents to be frantic. Besides, Yvette hadn't actually struck her hand. If she had, that would be a different story.

"He spent too much time in contact with the cursed root carving, and the deathly aura clinging to him is far too heavy. Physician Finch, where are the precious stones I asked you to prepare?" Before he had left her side, Lucia had instructed him to gather as many gems and stones as possible.

"Right here!" Physician Finch pointed to a cushion set with precious stones near the head of the bed. "Lady Lucia, this is the largest piece I own. I have used this cushion for ten years. Will it suffice?"

"If not, there are more." He turned and placed a silver tray on the bed, holding a few emerald pendants and ornamental gems.

"Do you need gems? My emerald bracelets will do." Matron Finch's hands trembled as she slipped a pair of brilliant green bracelets from her wrists.

Lucia glanced at them. "A flawless cut, radiant color." She smiled softly. "Your bracelets are exquisite, Matron Finch, but it isn't necessary. Once I use them, the stones will be ruined. It would be a waste."

She turned her gaze to the cushion set with precious stones and then looked at the physician. "This cushion will do. And you should find a new one anyway. It's far too high. Haven't you suffered from a stiff neck after using it for ten years?"

Physician Finch blinked in surprise. So the constant ache in his neck and shoulders was because of this cushion?
