The steward's words were dripping with malice.
For a young maiden to leave her home and return only to be described as 'unsteady on her feet'?
Yet Alistair, her own father, didn't reprimand the steward. Instead, his fury toward Lucia flared to a boiling point.
"Tell that wicked daughter to get her ass in here!"
The steward's son standing nearby immediately piped up, "I'll go."
This was none other than Hank Strong.
Hank ran out just in time to see Lucia heading toward Sunstone Pavilion. Her two maids were with her—one supporting her arm, the other clutching a wooden box.
Judging by its size and make, the box was clearly meant to hold silver marks.
Hank's eyes widened. Could it be? Did the second Beaumont daughter actually go out and earn a whole box of silver?
"Lady Lucia, Lord Beaumont summons you to the main hall!" Hank immediately darted in front of them, blocking their path.
His greedy gaze kept drifting toward the wooden box Bonnie was holding.
It definitely held silver!
"I don't have time," Lucia said, glancing at him. "Move."
"Lady Lucia, you can't behave this way. Lord Beaumont is your father. How can you be so defiant? He surely has an important matter to discuss."
"Who do you think you are? Do you think you have the right to lecture my lady?" Bonnie snapped furiously.
Hank's gaze shifted to her face.
These two maids beside the young lady were truly beautiful, and their figures were far superior to Lucia's. They were wonderfully curved where it counted, with slender waists...
Hank felt a lecherous itch in his heart.
His father was the steward; based on that alone, his status in Beaumont Manor was at least higher than these two maids, wasn't it?
If only he could beg his lord to grant him one of them as a wife...
Hank's predatory look made Bonnie sick to her stomach.
"I'm merely following Lord Beaumont's orders to summon you. If you don't go, he will punish me."
Celia quickly pulled her out of the way.
The cup shattered against the stone floor.
"You reckless fool! Do you have any idea what time it is? How dare you run wild outside! Have you already found a man in the Royal Capital to throw yourself at?"
Alistair roared with rage the second he laid eyes on her.
Lucia's gaze turned frosty.
"Did Lord Beaumont eat filth again today?" she snapped right back.
Lady Beaumont walked in with Ximena just in time to hear this remark.
Ximena's jaw dropped wide enough to fit an egg.
Was this... was this the same Lucia she had brought back?
She was speaking to Lord Beaumont? And she accused him of eating filth!
"Look closely. Is she the same damned girl you brought from the village!" Lady Beaumont hissed through gritted teeth.
