"You wicked daughter! What did you just say?" Alistair was both shocked and furious, pointing a trembling finger at Lucia, unable to believe his own ears.

"If you hadn't been eating filth, my lord, your words wouldn't reek so terribly," Lucia replied, staring at him coldly.

"You, you! I am your father! You've been back for days, and you haven't called me 'father' once!"

"I was afraid it would curse you to an early grave," Lucia scoffed.

He wanted to be her father? Was he worthy?

Alistair nearly collapsed from sheer fury after just a few exchanges.

"That is none of your concern. Mind your own business," Lucia said, shifting her gaze to Ximena, who was standing to the side.

Wasn't this the old woman who had gone to the village to fetch her?

Meeting her stunned expression, Lucia instantly understood. Lady Beaumont must have suspected something and brought Ximena here to verify her identity.

But even so, she had no intention of acting like poor young Lucia.

"The kingdom is in mourning! No one dares to roam about casually, for fear of breaking a taboo and bringing disaster upon their house. But you! A commoner who knows nothing of the Royal Capital dares to wander out! You know no one here, and you haven't a single copper to your name. Where could you possibly go?"

Alistair slammed his hand on the table. "On your very first day here, you provoked Prince Jareth. If you go out and offend some royal relation, how many lives do you think you have?"

He truly believed that with a face like hers, she was bound to stir up trouble.

Furthermore, she might actually be cursed with terrible fortune. Otherwise, why would she suffer a head wound and attract such trouble the moment she arrived?
