The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 264

She held the phone out to Garnett.

On the screen was a picture of a jade bracelet. The color was a rich, flawless emerald, with an incredible translucency.

Garnett's brow twitched slightly.

This bracelet looked remarkably similar to the heirloom piece his grandmother wore.

He took the phone. "This isn't cheap, is it?"

"A million, but it's fine, I have the money."

Garnett didn't say anything else. He picked up his own phone and tapped the screen a few times.

Sigrid's phone immediately chimed with a notification.

She looked down and froze.

One million.

"Garnett," she looked up, "I told you I had the money. I wasn't asking you for it..."

"Take it." Garnett started the car, shifting gears, his voice even. "It's a token of my respect for your mother."

Sigrid's eyes instantly welled with tears, and she offered a soft "Mhm."

Three days later, at the Harper Group headquarters.

Sigrid clicked into the chief secretary's office in her stilettos.

Corinne was sitting behind her desk reviewing documents. She looked up, and seeing it was Sigrid, offered a warm smile.

"Sigrid, what brings you here?"

Sigrid pulled a velvet jewelry box from her bag and gently set it on Corinne's desk.

"Corinne, I'm here to return this."

Corinne opened the box, revealing the jade bracelet inside.

"Returning it so soon?" Corinne chuckled. "Actually, maybe it will belong to you soon enough, Sigrid."

Sigrid replied, "I promised I'd only wear it for a few days, and I didn't want to make things difficult for you."

Corinne smiled, getting up to head to the safe. She entered the passcode, scanned her fingerprint, and placed the velvet box inside.

When she returned, her expression was even more relaxed.

"Sigrid, Mr. Harper is in his office. Go right in. He'll be very happy to see you."

But then again, women's tastes in jewelry were generally quite unified; it was perfectly normal for pieces to look alike.

"Just wait for me a little longer, I'll be done shortly," he said warmly.

Sigrid placed a gentle kiss on his cheek and walked gracefully over to the sofa, scrolling through her phone to pick a restaurant.

Garnett's phone pinged. He picked it up to see a message from an old friend on his contact list.

This friend had recently opened a Mexican restaurant and kept inviting him over for a tasting, but Garnett had always been too busy and kept putting it off.

"Garnett, your wife is here having lunch with a guy." The message came with an attached photo.

In the picture, Lavinia and Charley were sitting in a corner booth, gazing at each other.

She was smiling in that lovely, gentle way, reminding him of how she used to look when they first started dating.

Garnett stared at the photo for a long time, his grip on the phone tightening subconsciously.

"Garnett, how about Japanese?" Sigrid waved her phone. "I found an omakase restaurant that's supposed to be really good."

Garnett set his phone down face-first. "Let's get Mexican. A friend of mine opened a place and has been inviting me over."

"Oh, Mexican. I heard it's good too," Sigrid smiled sweetly. "As long as I'm with you, anywhere is perfect."

Garnett's face was stormy. He didn't respond.
