The Man Who Never Looked Away novel Chapter 336

Jocelyn patted her shoulder. "That means he sees you as family. Get ready for a lifetime of worrying."

Lavinia's fingers involuntarily curled inward.

So his family really did own mines? Literal mines.

Just how obscenely wealthy were they?

"Security is terrible there, and the political situation is unstable. I'm really anxious," Lavinia continued, trying to pry more information out of Jocelyn.

"Southeast Asia is actually fine. It's South America and Africa you really need to worry about. South America is run by cartels, and neither the police nor the military can do anything. In Africa, rebel forces run rampant in several countries. Presidents get overthrown constantly, and ethnic clashes happen all the time."

Jocelyn paused and smiled.

"But I shouldn't scare you. Don't worry too much. Your Charley is incredibly capable. Stronger than anyone else I know." She patted Lavinia's shoulder again.

Lavinia felt a messy swirl of emotions.

She liked the working-class Charley—the guy who ate street food with her, went grocery shopping with her, cooked dinner, and took evening strolls. She didn't want the billionaire heir, Charley Sheffield.

She had absolutely zero desire to get entangled with another wealthy family.

And his wasn't just any wealthy family, either.

When Lavinia returned to the department, Zoey bounded over again. "Lavinia! I ordered brunch for the whole department as a greeting gift! Can I bring you a plate?"

Seeing her coworkers grabbing food, Lavinia figured it would be rude to refuse entirely.

Besides, it was Charley who had lied to her, not Zoey.

"Thanks, I'll grab it myself," Lavinia said.

Just as she stood up, Zoey whipped a tray out from behind her back.

"Right here! Already plated for you. Look, it even has presentation!" Zoey winked.

Even though she was just an ordinary person, did he really like her?

And what about her? Did she like the real man, or the version of Charley she had built in her head?

She slowly finished the food, opened a document, and started editing the report.

Meanwhile, hiding in the breakroom, Zoey sent the photo to Charley along with a text: "Mr. Sheffield, Lavinia ate the breakfast you made! Good, good!"

A reply came instantly: "Is she still angry?"

Zoey typed back: "Eating your love-filled meal means she's not mad anymore! Lavinia is super nice!" She added a thumbs-up emoji.

A notification popped up: [You have received a transfer].

"Score!" Zoey excitedly tapped to accept the money.
