The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 35

Diana's eyes darted away. "Well, yes..."

Jocelyn clenched her fists and closed her eyes.

She had the urge to hit someone.

But Diana, for all her faults, had raised her. And Marcus had always genuinely loved her.

So Jocelyn had never planned to stand by and do nothing.

The reason she hadn't told them where the huge sum of money came from, and why she had insisted on signing a loan agreement, was to prevent Diana from treating her like a money tree.

Otherwise, whenever the Evans family had a problem, Jocelyn would be stuck filling an endless pit.

She didn't want to spend the rest of her life as a tool.

And she refused to be emotionally blackmailed.

"Enough with the excuses! Pay up! Or we're not leaving!" The leader of the group shouted impatiently.

Jocelyn snapped back to reality. In a calm voice, she asked, "Sir, could you give us a couple more days? I promise, I will pay you back."

The man looked her up and down. "You'll pay? Your old man can't even pay. What makes you think a little girl like you can? How are you going to pay? With your body?"

The group erupted in laughter.

"Even if she paid with her body, it wouldn't be worth six hundred million, hahaha."

"Thugs!" Marcus was gasping for air. "How can you insult my daughter like that! You're nothing but thugs!"

The leader looked at Jocelyn lecherously, but his words were for Marcus.

"So what if we're thugs? We get paid to do a job. The esteemed Chairman Evans here doesn't pay his debts. Looks to me like you're the deadbeat, even more shameless than a thug."

Marcus nearly choked. "You, you..."

"Mom!" Jocelyn stopped Marcus from saying more. "Take Dad back to his room. I'll handle this."

For once, Diana looked worried. "Be careful."

"I will."

But Marcus refused to leave. "Jo, you go back. You don't need to be involved in this. Dad will take care of it."

His lackeys exchanged looks of disbelief. No one had expected Jocelyn to strike.

"This girl has some nerve..."

The man shot to his feet, rubbing his cheek. He suddenly laughed.

The moment the smile vanished, he raised his hand.

Faced with such a beautiful woman, some of his men felt a pang of pity, worried that one slap might break her.

But to everyone's surprise, Jocelyn didn't even blink. From her beautifully shaped lips, a single name emerged.

"Ron 'The Badger'."

The man's hand froze mid-air, his face a mask of shock.

"How do you know our boss's nickname?"

Jocelyn gave a half-smile. "You're not qualified to know."

To be able to brazenly storm into the Evans' home and demand payment, there was only one debt collection agency in all of Northwood City with that kind of backing and guts.
