The Man Who Waited vs. The Man Who Wasted novel Chapter 421

Jocelyn took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart.

"Don't look. It's ugly."

For once, Julian insisted. "Let me see."

After a few seconds of silence, Jocelyn lifted her shirt, exposing her waist.

On the right side of her waist was a scar the size of a fist. Time had faded it to a pale pink, but it twisted like a snake, jagged and hideous.

Against her radiant complexion, it stood out starkly.

It was easy to imagine how much it must have hurt when she was burned.

And without timely treatment, the torment must have been unbearable.

Julian's fingers stopped just short of touching the wound.

The profound ache in his gaze melted into a soft sigh.

"Did you cry?"

Jocelyn dropped the hem of her shirt. "No, because I knew crying wouldn't do any good."

She had tried, once upon a time.

She used to think crying would soften Diana's heart.

It didn't.

Instead, Diana just found her annoying and immature.

So, from then on, Jocelyn rarely shed a tear.

It was only since she got pregnant that she seemed to have become sensitive again.

Julian finally rested his hand on the back of her head, gently stroking her hair.

"If it hurts in the future, cry if you want to."

Jocelyn offered a bitter smile. "Does crying help?"

Julian: "It does."

Jocelyn: "How?"

Julian: "If you cry, I'll know you're in pain, and I'll find a way to make it stop."

Jocelyn stared at his face for a few seconds.

"Why are you so good to me?"

Julian: "Because you're good to me, too."

Jocelyn thought about it for a long while.

"I don't think I've done anything particularly good for you."

A faint smile touched Julian's lips.

"You have. Just today."

Jocelyn couldn't figure it out.

"Today? Did I?"

Julian: "Yes. You worried about me."

Jocelyn: "That counts as being good to you?"

A glimmer of hope flashed in Julian's eyes.
