Chapter 184-1
2 days later
If there’s one thing the Grinning Skulls MC knows how to do, it’s throw a party.
The massive island counter in the kitchen has been converted into a full-scale bar, loaded with endless bottles of bourbon, tequila, cases of craft beer, champagne, and ice buckets packed to the brim.
The penthouse is packed.
Dad’s standing near the fireplace in his leather vest, an arm slung lazily around a stunning brunette, laughing loudly as Bishop recounts some ridiculous story.
Half a dozen brothers and their wives, or girlfriends, or women-just-for-tonight are gathered around, drinks in hand, music blaring, and the air thick with energy, laughter, and the sharp scent of expensive cologne and the delicious catering on the dining room table.
Locke moves through the crowd like a king navigating his own court. He’s dressed in a fitted dark shirt that stretches tight over his broad shoulders, his sleeves rolled up to reveal his heavily tattooed forearms. Every few minutes, his eyes sweep across the open room, finding mine through the sea of people, grounding me with a single, quiet look before Mayhem slaps him on the back and hands him another glass of whiskey.
I step into the kitchen to pour myself a fresh drink, feeling a bright, buzzing warmth in my chest. Reaching the ten-week mark two days ago has given me an intoxicating sense of freedom.
My energy is back, the morning nausea has completely vanished, and for the first time in years, I’m entirely in my element: playing host to the people who have become our extended, chaotic family.
I uncork my special bottle of alcohol-free champagne and pour a generous splash into a crystal flute.
Just as the pale, bubbling liquid hits the glass, I catch the flash of emerald green out of the corner of my
eye.
It’s Jade, Strutting straight toward the kitchen island like she owns the place. Instantly, the reflex to hide my pregnancy takes over. I quickly slide the bottle behind a tall wooden knife block and a decorative fruit bowl sitting on the counter, stepping smoothly in front of it just as she breezes up to the counter.
And jaw-dropping doesn’t even begin to describe her tonight. She looks absolute perfection. She’s wearing a shimmering, body-hugging emerald green dress with a plunging neckline that shows off every single curve, paired with killer high heels that make her legs look a mile long.
Around her neck is the green and gold scarf Locke and I got her for Christmas, draped casually over her bare shoulders, contrasting gorgeously with her red hair. But what catches the light immediately are the dazzling, brilliant-cut diamond earrings sparkling at her lobes, swinging gently as she moves.
