The MC President's Forsaken Wife (Zara and Knox) novel Chapter 376

Chapter 184-3

I let out a breathless chuckle, wiping a stray tear from my cheek. “You think I look curvy?”

“You look stunning, mama, Jade sob-giggles. “Oh, Zara… after everything… after the hospital, the chemotherapy, all that awful, horrible sickness… look at you now! You beat it all, and now you’re making a baby with that giant, scary man out there

“I know, right? We just had our scan two days ago with Dr. Innis. Everyone is healthy, everything is perfect. I’m almost ten weeks along.”

“Ten weeks!” Jade gasps. “Oh, Zara, I am so, so happy for you. Truly. My heart is just bursting right now. Have you told Cobra? Does Mayhem know?”

“Nobody in the club knows yet,” I say quickly, holding her gaze. “We aren’t telling anyone until after the first trimester. Locke and I want to keep it between us just a little bit longer before the whole club explodes.”

“Your secret is completely safe with me,” Jade promises solemnly, crossing her heart with a manicured finger. “I swear on my diamonds, I will not say a word to a single soul. Not even Mayhem. You know he can’t keep a secret to save his life anyway… he’d probably order a skywriter over the clubhouse by tomorrow morning.”

“That’s terrifyingly accurate.”

“Now.” Jade looks down at the alcohol-free champagne bottle in her hand, then looks back at me. “We need a cover operation. Right now.”

“A cover operation?”

“Yeah, you know these boys. Pouring shots and handing them around, offering drinks from bottles. How do you refuse without making them look at you funny?”

I flash back to that afternoon at the clubhouse, when we were celebrating my cancer-free status. Locke got me out of there when Mayhem tried to hand me a shot of whiskey… but trying to avoid a dozen pushy men on New Year’s Eve in my own home is a much bigger challenge.

“Here’s what we do,” Jade says. “I will personally act as your drink-refiller all night. Every time someone tries to hand you a shot, I’ll swoop in, declare that you’re on ‘the good bubbly’ all night and fill your glass with your fancy grape juice.”

I stare at her, a huge, laughing smile spreading across my face. “Jade, you’re an absolute criminal mastermind.”

“I’m a protective auntie in the making,” Jade declares proudly, winking as she fills my flute with the 0.0% sparkling wine. “Now, lift your glass. To new beginnings, beating the odds, and keeping the scariest men the city completely in the dark.”

“For two more weeks, anyway.”

We clink our glasses together with a soft, clear chime, the bubbles tickling my throat as I take a sip. Having Jade in my corner, knowing she shares this joyful secret without a shred of doubt or fear, makes the whole night feel brighter.

Chapter 184-

We step back around the kitchen island just as Locke walks around the corner, his heavy gaze instantly Tocking onto me. He scans my face, taking in my bright smile and the crystal flute in my hand, before his

eyes shift subtly to Jade, who gives him a suspiciously innocent, overly dramatic nod.

Locke raises one eyebrow in quiet suspicion, stepping closer to rest his heavy hand on the small of my back. “Everything alright here, ladies?”

“Everything is phenomenal, big guy,” Jade chirps, patting his broad chest. “Zara and I were just admiring my new earrings and planning my beach wardrobe. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go and pour some tequila shots.”

She winks at me over her shoulder and struts off toward the living room, leaving Locke and me standing together.

“What was that about, baby?””

“Just girl talk, Locke.” I smile up at his handsome face, and bat my eyelashes. “Nothing but girl talk.”
