The Bloody Rescue

The world was a blur of terror and chaos.

Iva’s body was pressed against the Lycan’s massive chest, her struggles futile against its iron grip. She kicked, she clawed, she screamed, but the beast did not relent.

It carried her through the corridors of the abbey with relentless determination, its powerful strides eating up the distance as if she weighed nothing at all. Her fists pounded against its fur-covered chest, her nails-still tipped with the remnants of claws-scraping uselessly against its hide.

“Let me go!” she shrieked, her voice raw and desperate. “Put me down!”

But the Lycan didn’t respond. It didn’t even acknowledge her struggles. Its grip remained steady, its focus fixed on the path ahead, as if her protests were nothing more than the buzzing of an insect.

And then she saw it.

The walls of the abbey, once pristine, were now painted bright red. Bodies lay scattered across the floor-hunters, nuns, their limbs twisted at unnatural angles, their eyes frozen in expressions of shock and terror. Blood pooled in dark puddles on the stone, the metallic scent thick enough to choke on. The familiar corridors she had walked a hundred times were now a charnel house, a testament to the savage violence that had been unleashed.

Iva’s stomach lurched.

She had seen death before. She had seen violence, pain, and the aftermath of cruelty.

But this-this was something else entirely. This was a massacre. The hunters who had tormented her, who had tried to take her son, who had strapped her to that table-they were gone. Ripped apart by the very creatures they had sworn to destroy.

The irony was not lost on her.

The Lycan carried her past the carnage, its grip never faltering. She was too stunned to fight anymore, her body limp with shock, her mind struggling to process the horror unfolding around

her.

They reached the main doors, and the Lycan burst through them, stepping into the cool night air. Iva looked up at the sky, at the stars that seemed so distant and indifferent to the horror unfolding below. The moon hung full and bright, casting silver light across the chaos.

And then, realization hit her like a physical blow.

The Lycans had come for her.

All this time, Nick had been telling the truth. The Lycans had never stopped hunting her. They had tracked her across the kingdom, across the human world, never giving up. And now they had found

Rer.

She would be taken back.

She would be a slave again.

A shudder of pure terror coursed through her body. She had escaped once. She had run, fought

survived against all odds. But now, she was caught. And she knew what awaited her the chains,

the darkness, the endless torment.

But then, a single thought pierced through her despair.

If they wanted her dead, they would have killed her already.

The Lycan holding her could have snapped her neck with a single movement. It could have left her to bleed out on the abbey floor like the others. But it hadn’t.

It had carried her out.

It had protected her.

Maybe just maybe-there was a chance.

A chance to survive.

A chance to find her son.

She snapped back to reality as they reached the exit gates. The Lycan was about to carry her through them, into the waiting darkness beyond.

“STOP!” she screamed, her voice raw and desperate. “My son! Please! They have my son! I’m

begging you-please-”

The Lycan froze.

For a long, terrible moment, nothing happened. The beast stood motionless, its massive chest heaving with each breath, its eyes fixed on the darkness ahead.

Then it let out a roar-a thunderous, primal sound that shook the very ground beneath them. It was a sound of fury, of hunger, of something ancient and relentless. The roar echoed across the courtyard, bouncing off the stone walls, a declaration of war against anyone who dared stand in its

way.

Other roars echoed back from the darkness.

The Lycan pack had heard.

And they responded.

The chaos intensified. The Lycans around her became even more savage, tearing through the remaining hunters with renewed ferocity. Their claws flashed in the moonlight, their jaws snapped with bone-crushing force, and the night air was filled with the sounds of battle-screams, growls, the wet tearing of flesh.

Iva watched in horror as one of the hunters tried to flee, only to be brought down by a massive paw. His body crumpled, and a Lycan descended upon him, its jaws closing around his throat. The hunter’s scream was cut short, replaced by a gurgling choke.

Another hunter threw a blade at one of the Lycans. It struck the beast’s shoulder, but the Lycan

barely flinched. It pulled the blade free with a growl, snapped it in half, and lunged at the hunter

with a fury that was terrifying to behold.

And then, Iva heard a sound that made her heart stop.

Another roar, distinct from the others.

She looked up.

A massive Lycan emerged from the shadows, its form silhouetted against the moon. Its fur was dark, almost black, and its eyes burned with an intensity that made her breath catch. In its arms, cradled against its chest, was a small, limp body.

Iva’s heart shattered.

“YOUSSEF!” she screamed, her voice cracking with grief and terror.

She tore herself from the Lycan’s grip, her legs carrying her toward the beast that held her son. She didn’t care about the danger. She didn’t care about the violence surrounding her. All she cared about was the tiny, motionless form in the creature’s arms.

She stumbled over debris, nearly fell, but she didn’t stop. She pushed past the other Lycans, ignoring their growls of warning, her eyes fixed on her son.

She reached the Lycan and reached out, her hands trembling.

“Please,” she sobbed. “Please, give him to me. Please let him be okay.”

The Lycan looked at her, its eyes burning with an ancient fire. For a moment, she thought it would refuse. She thought it would turn and carry her son away, leaving her alone in the chaos.

Then, slowly, it lowered the small body into her arms.

Youssef was limp, his face pale, his eyes closed. His chest barely rose, and his skin was cold to the touch. Blood matted his dark hair, and a small gash on his forehead was still oozing crimson.

Iva pressed her ear to his chest, her heart pounding.

And then-a heartbeat.

Faint, but there.

Her son was alive.

She collapsed to her knees, clutching him to her chest, sobbing with relief and terror. Her body

shook with the force of her emotions, the tears streaming down her face.

“Please,” she whispered. “Please be okay. Please, Moon Goddess, let him be okay.”

She rocked him gently, her hand smoothing his hair, her lips pressing kisses to his forehead.

Youssef stirred.

His eyes fluttered open, and he let out a soft, confused whimper.

Iva’s heart soared.

“I’m here, baby,” she whispered, her voice thick with tears. “Mama’s here. I’ve got you. You’re safe

now.”

The Lycan pack surrounded them, their massive forms standing guard, their eyes watching the darkness for any remaining threats. They formed a protective circle around mother and child, a wall of fur and muscle and ancient power.

Iva looked up at them, her mind reeling.

She didn’t know why they had come. She didn’t know why they had saved her.

But she knew, with a certainty that settled deep in her bones, that everything was about to change.

She was alive.

Youssef was alive.

But she had no idea what would happen next.
