Agony and Extasy-1
The entire night was agony and ecstasy for Caleb, because for the first time since his world had
been torn apart, his mate and his son were finally under the same roof as him, yet the distance
separating them felt more painful than every mile he had travelled searching for them.
They were here.
That single thought should have been enough to make him the happiest Lycan alive.
They were both inside the Royal Lycan Castle, surrounded by the strongest Lycans in the kingdom,
and for the first time in months, Caleb knew exactly where his family was.
Yet every time happiness began to rise inside him, the memory of Eva’s eyes destroyed it.
Fear.
That was what he had seen in them.
Not recognition.
Not relief.
Not the love he had imagined countless times during the endless nights when he had dreamed
about their reunion.
Fear.
Distance.
Suspicion.
And every time she looked at him like that, it felt as though someone reached inside his chest and
tore his heart apart with their bare hands.
Caleb had imagined their reunion a million times.
During the darkest nights of his search, when exhaustion had become his constant companion and
every failed lead had felt like another piece of his soul disappearing, he had created entire scenes inside his mind simply to survive.
He had imagined Eva running toward him.
He had imagined catching her in his arms and burying his face in her hair while she cried against
his chest.
He had imagined her hitting him because she was angry that he had taken so long to find her, and

he had imagined laughing through his own tears while promising her that he would never let her
disappear again.
He had imagined kissing her forehead.
He had imagined everything.
Everything except this.
He had never imagined Eva staring at him as though he were a monster.
Caleb sat alone in his private study, one hand gripping the edge of his desk while his eyes
remained fixed on the darkness beyond the windows.
“What happened to you, Eva?”
His voice was barely more than a whisper.
He knew Nick had played a part in this.
That bastard had admitted before his death that he had succeeded in turning Eva against Caleb,
and now Caleb was finally seeing the consequences of those words.
But there was more.
Something had happened to Eva that went far beyond simple manipulation.
Her memories were gone.
Caleb did not yet know the full truth, but he would.
He would uncover every lie.
Every manipulation.
Every secret.
He would find out what they had told her, what they had done to her, and why the woman he loved
was now looking at him with fear instead of recognition.
He would get to the bottom of it.
He had no other choice.
Eventually, exhaustion pulled him into a restless sleep, but even his dreams offered no escape.
By morning, Caleb had barely slept.

He dressed and left his chamber, moving through the royal corridors with the controlled
expression expected of the future Lycan King, although inside, he felt like a man standing on the edge of an abyss.
He stopped outside Eva’s chamber.
For several seconds, he simply stared at the door.
His hand finally lifted.
Knock.
He waited.
There was silence.
Caleb knocked once more, and when he heard nothing that sounded like an objection, he slowly
opened the door and stepped inside.
Then he stopped.
Completely.
The sight before him stole every thought from his mind.
Eva was sitting on the edge of the enormous bed, feeding Youssef from a bottle while holding him securely against her body, her hair falling softly around her shoulders as she watched the little boy
drink.
Morning sunlight poured through the windows, bathing mother and son in a golden glow.
Caleb could not move.
He simply stared.
For one breathtaking moment, everything else ceased to exist.
There was no kingdom.
No war.
No enemies.
No politics.
No memories.
There was only Eva.
And their son.

His eyes remained fixed on Youssef.
Deep inside him, even Chaos became completely still.
The ancient Lycan beast that had always been hungry for power and control seemed incapable of
thinking about anything except the tiny boy drinking peacefully in his mother’s arms.
