Even after Asha left the room, Caleb remained standing beside the bed, staring at the closed door as though it had somehow become the boundary between sanity and madness.

He could still hear her voice.

I want you to give me a baby.

The words repeated inside his mind until they began to feel unreal.

Caleb dragged a hand through his hair and took a deep breath, but the air seemed too thick to

enter his lungs properly.

He felt trapped.

Not physically.

Something worse.

He felt as though the walls were closing around him, as though the entire house had suddenly become too small for his body and the realm outside was pressing against the windows, waiting for him to make the wrong decision.

Chaos was pacing inside him.

“No.”

Caleb closed his eyes. “She’s insane.”

“I know.”

“We cannot give in to this.”

“Do you believe I don’t know?”

His frustration exploded through their bond.

“Do you think I’m considering it?”

Chaos growled.

“She wants our child. What does she even mean by that?”

Caleb clenched his fists.

The thought of Iva immediately changed everything.

“We have a fated mate.”

Chaos became still.

Galeb looked toward the door.

“There is no world in which I betray Iva.”

He suddenly felt as though he could not remain inside that room for another second.

He wanted out.

He opened the bedroom door and walked directly toward the front entrance.

When he reached the main hall, Asha was standing near the staircase.

She looked at him with mild surprise.

“Where are you going?”

Caleb didn’t stop.

“Away.”

“Away?”

“Away from this.”

He gestured toward the house.

“And all this madness.”

Asha studied him.

For a moment, he expected her to stop him.

Instead, she smiled.

“Okay.”

Caleb frowned.

“I can’t stop you. It’s your choice.”

He opened the door.

Asha’s voice followed him.

“But my offer still stands.”

Caleb paused.

“When you change your mind, you know where to find me.”

He looked over his shoulder.

“won’t.”

Her smile didn’t disappear.

“We’ll see.”

Caleb stepped outside.

The door closed behind him.

He stood motionless in the middle of the street.

The world before him was nothing like the world he knew.

Talis stretched endlessly beneath a strange violet-black sky, illuminated by enormous floating crystals that drifted between towers like artificial moons. Buildings rose from the ground at impossible angles, some appearing to be carved from black stone, others made entirely of translucent material through which streams of glowing energy moved like blood through veins.

Bridges floated in midair.

Markets filled entire streets.

Creatures Caleb could not identify moved through the crowds.

Some had horns.

Others had silver skin.

Some appeared almost human except for their enormous wings, elongated ears, or glowing markings running across their faces.

But one thing caught Caleb’s attention immediately.

The eyes.

Violet.

Everywhere he looked, he saw violet eyes.

Young.

Old.

Male.

Female.

Rich.

Poor.

Almost every person who passed him possessed the same unnatural violet gaze.

Caleb’s instincts immediately became alert.

Genies.

He continued walking.

Some beings carried glowing chains.

Some wore collars.

Some walked freely.

Others moved with their heads lowered while carrying heavy objects behind people dressed in

expensive clothing.

He stopped.

His expression darkened.

A young man was dragging a cart through the street.

A metal collar surrounded his neck.

A chain connected it to another person’s hand.

Caleb’s jaw tightened.

The person holding the chain didn’t even look at him.

They simply continued walking.

Chaos growled. “Slaves.”

Caleb’s stomach turned.

He had seen cruelty before.

He had lived among wolves.

He had witnessed the brutality of power.

But something about this place was different.

Nobody seemed shocked.

Nobody stared.

Nobody intervened.

It was normal.

He walked again.

The deeper he went into Talis, the more disturbing the world became.

A group of people knelt outside an enormous building while guards watched them.

A woman with silver hair carried boxes while an elderly genie walked behind her, occasionally

pulling the chain attached to her wrist.

Caleb stopped again.

His hands curled into fists.

“What the hell is this place?”

No one answered.

He continued walking until he noticed a small tavern tucked between two enormous buildings.

The sign above the entrance was written in a language he couldn’t understand, but the smell coming through the doorway reminded him of home.

Food.

Alcohol.

Warm bread.

He entered.

Then he saw the person serving drinks.

And froze.

No violet eyes.

The bartender had dark brown eyes.

Caleb’s instincts immediately sharpened.

He walked toward the counter.

“What can I get you?”

“Something strong.”

The bartender studied him.

“You’re new.”

The bartender poured him a drink.

Caleb took the glass and moved toward a table in the corner.

He sat down.

He didn’t drink immediately.

Instead, he activated his supernatural hearing.

The tavern transformed.

Voices from every corner became clear.

Whispers.

Deals.

Threats.

Secrets.

He heard one group discussing a shipment of prisoners arriving from another city.

Another spoke about a genie noble who had disappeared.

Someone mentioned a forbidden portal.

Another voice whispered the word Velinthra.

Caleb’s head turned slightly.

But then he heard something that made his blood run cold.

“The guardian has awakened.”

Another voice answered.

“Impossible.”

“It sensed a stranger.”

“Human?”

“No.”

A pause.

“Something worse.”

Galeb’s fingers tightened around his glass.

Chaos became completely silent.

Then another conversation reached his ears.

“They say the stranger came through the old gate.”

“The gate hasn’t opened in centuries.”

“It did.”

“Who opened it?”

Silence.

Then someone whispered:

“The Genie.”

Caleb’s heart stopped for half a second.

He lowered his gaze.

The genie had sent him here.

He had already suspected it.

Now he was hearing strangers discuss it.

But before he could listen further, another sound reached him.
