"And Ms. Larkin, thank you for calling the police to get me out of danger. I understand what you're saying, and I promise to keep my distance from Sterling. You don't have to worry."
Sasha was stunned. She quickly grabbed Lydia's wrist. "Lydia, you're just going to give up like that?"
Ignoring her, Lydia kept her eyes fixed on Sterling. "Sterling, I hope that my accidental hug just now didn't cause you any trouble."
Sterling's jaw tightened, his hands clenching into fists as he replied coldly, "It didn't."
"That's good."
Lydia lowered her eyes, her eyelashes trembling slightly. Then, she pushed Sasha aside and turned to head back inside.
"Wait."
Elena, having thought it over, couldn't help but call out to stop her.
"Um... I wanted to ask, Lydia, do you happen to have a spare pair of pants I could borrow?"
Elena was genuinely fed up. Constantly holding up her pants was getting ridiculous.
She'd have to ride the motorcycle back later, and going bare-legged wasn't exactly an option.
The hallway lighting was so poor that neither Lydia nor Sasha had noticed what Elena was wearing until now.
At that moment, Sasha suddenly realized something.
She yanked on Lydia's arm, pointing at Elena in a hushed, panicked whisper. "Lydia, look at what she's wearing... Are those Sterling's clothes?"
The white button-down shirt and black pants were clearly men's sizes, draping loosely over her petite frame.
Right on cue, Elena added, "Sterls's pants are way too big. I can barely wear them."
Sterling looked down at her, his thin lips pressing into a line.
It was true. Her waist was incredibly small. His pants were completely the wrong size for her, and she had been clutching them up this whole time.
Sasha's face twisted into an ugly grimace.
She remembered that Elena was with Sterling when she called. Under what circumstances would Elena leave the house wearing Sterling's shirt and pants?
The implication was glaringly obvious: they had just slept together.
